New York Theatre Ballet to Present LEGENDS AND VISIONAIRES 2015 at Danspace Project, 10/1

New York Theatre Ballet will perform Legends & Visionaries 2015 from October 1-3, 2015 at Danspace Project, 131 E. 10th Street, NYC. Performances: Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm. A Season Opening Event will take place on Thursday at 7pm in the garden. New York Theatre Ballet returns to Danspace Project with its highly acclaimed Legends & Visionaries program. With its ever-expanding repertory, NYTB's cutting edge programming brings fresh insight to classic revivals paired with the modern sensibilities of both established and up and coming choreographers.

Based on Steve Reich's Clapping Music, Two Timing is choreographed by David Parker with costume designs by Pei-Chi Su and lighting design by Serena Wong. Merce Cunningham's Cross Currents is set to music by Conlon Nancarrow with lighting design by Beverly Emmons. Broadway Suite, choreographed by Agnes de Mille, will include dances from Oklahoma!, Carousel and Brigadoon, staged by Gemze De Lappe.These performances are presented through Community ACCESS, which provides subsidized off-season rental opportunities for Danspace Project community members.

Each evening will include a talk entitled Between the Acts: Conversation on Dance. Thursday evening will feature Theodore S. Chapin, who will speak about Agnes de Mille, and Friday and Saturday performances will feature David Vaughan, who will speak about Merce Cunningham.

As President and Executive Director of Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company, Ted Chapin has spearheaded over twenty award-winning Broadway and London revivals, as well as several film and TV movie remakes and numerous recordings. Chapin is past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Theater Wing, and was chairman of the Advisory Committee for New York City Center's Encores! series from its inception. In addition, he serves on the boards of New York City Center, Goodspeed Musicals and New Music USA. He has been a guest lecturer at NYU, Yale, Columbia, Lawrence University and St. Catherine's College at Oxford. He was a Tony Awards nominator for two seasons, and is currently a member of the Tony Administration Committee.

David Vaughan has danced, sung, acted, and choreographed in London, Paris, on and off Broadway, in American regional theaters, in film, television, ballet and modern dance companies, and cabaret. He was the archivist of the Cunningham Dance Foundation. He is the author of Frederick Ashton and his Ballets (revised edition, Dance Books, 1999) and of Merce Cunningham: Fifty Years (Aperture, 1997), now available updated as an app for iPad. At the Dancing in the Millennium Conference in Washington DC in July 2000, he received the 2000 CORD (Congress on Research in Dance) Award for Outstanding Leadership in Dance Research, and in September 2001 he received a New York Dance and Performance Award ("Bessie") for sustained achievement.
