New York Live Arts will present Ellen Robbins' Dances by Very Young Choreographers in the New York Live Arts Theater on January 31 at 2pm and February 1 at 1pm and 4pm. The evening will feature a mélange of witty and intriguing original dances, created and performed by Robbins' students ages 9 - 18.

For over 20 years, Ellen Robbins has worked with young dancers from ages 5 to 18, helping them to stretch their technical modern dance skills and their imaginations in a warm and supportive atmosphere where improvisation reigns. For Dances by Very Young Choreographers, each student choreographs a two to four minute solo and participates in group pieces. This showcase of young talent has become one of New York Live Arts' most beloved community programs.

In a conversation with The New York Times, Robbins explained: "I choose the work because of the ideas and the choreography," and mentions how it is important for her to have children "see what it's like to dance an idea." The works in Dances by Very Young Choreographers can be humorous, dramatic, lyrical, or abstract, but always entertaining. This showcase is a not to be missed opportunity to inspire children by exposing them to live performances created and performed by their peers.

Performances will take place in New York Live Arts' Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults and $1 for ages 13 and under. Tickets may be purchased online at newyorklivearts/season, by phone at 212-924-0077 and in person at the box office. Box office hours are Monday to Friday from 1 to 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 9pm.
