This world-renowned company of male professional dancers delights audiences with its loving knowledge of dance, its comic theatrical approach, and the astounding fact that men can, indeed, dance en pointe without falling flat on their faces! Founded in 1974, Les Ballets Trockadero De Monte Carlo performs the full range of ballet and modern dance repertoire, including classical and original works, in faithful renditions of the manners and conceits of those dance styles. The comedy of "The Trocks" is achieved by incorporating and exaggerating the foibles, accidents, and underlying incongruities of serious dance. The sight of male bodies delicately balancing on toes as swans, sylphs, water sprites, and romantic princesses has delighted and amused ballet novices as well as the most knowledgeable of audiences -- enhancing rather than mocking the spirit of dance as an art form.
