Artistic Director José Mateo announced today that in celebration of the Company's 30th Anniversary Season (September 2015-May 2016), José Mateo Ballet Theatre will return its original production of The Nutcracker to the Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston's historic Theatre District after 15 years. Once home to Mateo's Nutcracker for almost a decade in the 90's, the Cutler Majestic provides the perfect venue for a refreshed version of Mateo's 28thannual production of the holiday classic featuring new sets and costumes with performances November 27-December 6, 2015. For the fifth consecutive season the Company will continue to bring its Nutcracker to new audiences with performances at The Strand Theatre in Dorchester (Dec. 18-20) The long-awaited return to the Theatre District is an important milestone in the organization's history and sets the stage for the upcoming 30th Anniversary Season which also includes four repertory programs at The Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square, Cambridge to be announced in June.

Jose Mateo comments, "For our loyal friends and audiences who have been supporting us since the earliest days of the company's thirty-year history, returning to the Cutler Majestic this holiday season will be a happy homecoming of sorts. Our warm and intimate production of The Nutcracker is particularly well suited to this gem of a theatre, and we take special pride to be performing there again. Our production is one of the area's longest running versions of the world's most popular ballet, and this year will combine the best of time-honored traditions with brand new elements and surprises. We are particularly proud to offer an affordable presentation in the Theatre District which allows us to continue our work to make ballet accessible to more audiences. "

José Mateo Ballet Theatre originally presented The Nutcracker at the then named Emerson Majestic Theatre from 1990 to 1999. At that time the theater closed for renovations coinciding with José Mateo Ballet Theatre's move to Cambridge and its build-out of its home at The Sanctuary Theatre in Old Cambridge BaptistChurch in Harvard Square, Cambridge. The triumphant return to the Cutler Majestic marks a continued partnership with the Emerson team.

"We are absolutely delighted that José Mateo Ballet Theatre will be returning to the Cutler Majestic," says David Dower, Vice President of the Office of the Arts and Artistic Director of ArtsEmerson. "We are determined to balance our own program of putting the world on stage through ArtsEmerson with a commitment to access for local treasures. This holiday season will be a complete reflection of this commitment in action and we're glad for the opportunity to support JMBT in this way."

José Mateo Ballet Theatre will also be holding OPEN auditions for children's roles in The Nutcracker at the Cutler Majestic on Saturday, September 12, 2015. It is the only professional production to hold open auditions for children outside of its own school. Children cast will be perform in all three locations.
