Dance NOW! Miami Rounds Out Out IL MARE with 'Light Rain' at the Colony Theatre This Weekend

Dance NOW! Miami brings "Light Rain", a seminal work of the Joffrey Ballet to life at the Colony theatre alongside Diego Salterini's "OCEANICA" and Hannah Baumgarten's "Water's Edge, the Long Walk" to complete "IL MARE" the company's ambitious 18 month project of water themed works. Dance now! Miami will be the first non joffrey company to present this world famous Gerald Arpino ballet in south florida.

Cameron Basden, 30-year Joffrey Dancer, Associate Artistic Director and Arpino muse, and repiteur for the Arpino/Joffrey Foundation will travel to South Florida January 15 to restage this famed Ballet. "Light Rain is challenging for dancers, accessible and thrilling for audiences," Says Basden. "Dance Now Miami provides an excellent opportunity to showcase this signature pas to Miami audiences. With Dance NOW!'s blend of classicism and contemporary tech- niques and their ode to the history of the Joffrey Ballet, I see this pas as pushing boundaries for the company and intro- ducing both dancers and audiences to the freedom, the passion and the spirit that has always been at the heart of Ger- ald Arpino's ballets. I know that Dance Now Miami is committed to keeping that spirit alive through their works."

"IL MARE" will be an evening of dance to remember; in addition to "Light Rain", the company will present "Water's Edge, the Long Walk" which premiered in November, featuring Baumgarten's acclaimed storytelling through dance. Seven people across three generations intersect on the beachâ€" Are they reliving one life, danced through time, or simply portraying timeless stories familiar to all of us? For this reprise, the vision of long time Lighting designer Bruce F. Brown will bring the lapping waves of the ocean directly on to the Colony theatre stage; The third part of this aquatic trifecta, Salterini's "OCEANICA" from 2012, looks deep beneath the ocean's surface, with its swirling ebbs and flows and, accompanied by architect Elizabeth Camargo's set will transform the stage into a magical and fantastical undersea envi- ronment hosting Salterini's breathtaking dance-imagery.

This sublime lineup from Miami's foremost contemporary choreographers and the work of Gerald Arpino features the world-class dancers of the Ensemble, hailIng from Cuba to California, and will be an night of dance to remember.
