Complexions Contemporary Ballet presents Two World Premieres at the Joyce Theater

After a triumphant 15th Anniversary season and World Tour, Complexions Contemporary Ballet Artistic Directors and Co-Founders Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson have announced the official programming for the company's return to The Joyce Theater, taking place November 16-28, 2010. Complexions will premiere four new works by Dwight Rhoden during its annual engagement at The Joyce Theater. Featuring music from Rachmaninov to the Rolling Stones, these eclectic new works truly embody the culturally and artistically diverse spirit of Complexions.

Click is a solo performed by Comlexions Co-Artistic Director and Co-Founder Desmond Richardson that takes us on the journey of a man at a crossroads in his life, who, despite his success, still strives to find new inspiration and experiences. Through his movement, this man shares the frustration, acceptance and relief that accompanies life's moments of struggle and trimuph before everything "clicks" into place.

Moon Over Jupiter is a fantastical journey to a place where love has no limit and flows in dynamic currents of passion through the extreme movements of the dancers. Inspired by the images of Jupiter's cyclonice energy, the work uses the sweeping Rachmaninov score to create extravagant and extreme motion that tears across the stage in a combination of formations. This ballet hopes to transport audiences to another world and to experience the relationships between the movement, the environment and the performers.

On Holiday is a work that uses classic jazz songs made famous by Billie Holiday - such as Come Rain or Come Shine, Good Morning Heartache, Lover Man - Oh Where Can You Be, My Man (Mon Homme) , One for My Baby and One More For The Road and Let's Call the Whole Thing Off.

This octet for four couples is an interpretation of each song by a group of lovers that wander into various moments of their lives to experience each other in their private realities. On Holiday takes its lead from the classic American Jazz songs that bring the heart and soul of the love affairs to the surface and dive deep into the intimacy that makes loving someone irresistible. Essentially a collection of pas de deux, On Holiday gives each lush and sensual pairing a journey that eventually takes them to evocative and requited love.

Two by Four is a quartet for two couples to two songs by The Rolling Stones - Paint it Black and (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction . We encounter these couples at the end of a night of revelry on the town. The club has cleared, but these couples fight the dawn and even each other in an attempt to keep the party going.

Since its founding over 16 years ago, Rhoden and Richardson have created in Complexions an institution that embodies its historical moment, a sanctuary where those passionate about dance can celebrate its past while simultaneously building its future. Aptly, this year's programs celebrate the company's versatility with an exhilarating mixture of old and new, including these premieres and audience favorites like Rise and Mercy.

Complexions' 2010 return to The Joyce Theater promises exciting evenings of dance for all. Whether lifelong dance enthusiasts or new fans, Complexions Contemporary Ballet will move New York audiences with the virtuosity of their dancers and the emotive power they convey through the art of dance.

ABOUT The Joyce Theater

The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, has proudly served the dance community and its audiences since 1982. The founders, Cora Cahan and Eliot Feld, acquired and renovated the Elgin Theater in Chelsea, which opened as The Joyce Theater in 1982. The Joyce is named in honor of Joyce Mertz, beloved daughter of LuEsther T. Mertz.
