Paisiello's 1792 setting of the famous story about the valet Figaro who manages to arrange everything for his master, predates Rossini's by more than two decades, and was the more famous even for a while after the debut of the latter opera.

Le nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte

Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro takes place in Seville, Spain, several years after Il barbiere di Siviglia. It tells the tale of Figaro, the valet to Count Almaviva, and Susanna, the maid, who are preparing for their imminently approaching wedding when Figaro learns that the Count has desires for Susanna. Using his creative prowess, Figaro plots to outsmart his rival.

The production features Ashley Alden, Seung-Hyeon Baek, Olivia Betzen, John Callison, Alison Cheeseman, Jonathan Dauermann, Kerry Gotschall, Cole Grissom, Heather Jones, Natasha Nelson, Rodolfo Nieto, Milan Rakic, Korland Simmons, Alexandra Smith, Michael Spaziani, Joy Tamayo, Jennifer Townshend and Liz Tredent.

Rosina by Hiram Titus, libretto by Barbara Field

8/17, 8/21, 8/28 @ 7:30pm; 8/23, 8/30 @ 2pm

Erin Cressy, Stage Director
Chris Fecteau, Conductor and Music Director

This rousing more feministic take on the Beaumarchais Trilogy has not been heard live on stage more than a few times - and never before in New York. Rosina, the main female character in all three operas, is seen from orphan to countess, a woman with a tremendous heart who has been stuck in a cage. Now Rosina moves onto being her own person, making her own decisions on how to live life as it suits her.

The production features Elizabeth Bouk, Elliott Deasy, Kerry Gotschall, Marques Hollie, Stan Lacey, Christopher Lilley, Marie Masters, Milica Nikcevic, Katherine Papa, Elsa Queron and Korland Simmons.

Beaumarchais Concert Les Belles et Les Beaus

One night only on 8/25 @ 7:30pm!

dell'Arte presents an evening of concert material featuring excerpts of other settings from the Rosina/Figaro trilogy, including music of Rossini, Massenet, Milhaud, Corigliano, plus alternate arias from Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro not heard in the mainstage production. Tickets for this concert are $25.

Desiree Alejandro, Stage Director
Jeremy Weissman, Music Director
