Irish Rep's Free Reading Series to Continue with THE WINDSTEALERS This Friday

The Irish Repertory Theatre, which "encourages the development of works focusing on the Irish and Irish American experience, as well as a range of other cultures," continues the 10th season of the Irish Rep Reading Series with Jane Madden's THE WINDSTEALERS. The reading will be directed by Irish Rep's Literary Manager Kara Manning. THE WINDSTEALERS, which premiered at the 2015 Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival with the Eccles Theatre Group, will be read on Friday, November 13th at 3pm (EST) at the DR2 Theater, 103 East 15th Street, the Irish Repertory Theatre's temporary home during its current renovations. Welcome to Ballygweeha, the windiest town in Ireland. In Jane Madden's THE WINDSTEALERS, the houses teeter over, the locals walk at an angle into the gusts and no-one's ever properly lit a fire. When prodigal son Luc Torney returns after ten years to save the town from ruin with a windfarm scheme, he is hailed as a hero. But town lay-about Jacinta Nangle smells a rat. A cast of gurriers, property developers and mammies collide in this modern Irish satire on corruption and national character.

Jane Madden (Playwright) is from Dublin, Ireland where she recently completed an MFA in Playwriting at the Lir Academy of Dramatic Art. She also holds an undergraduate degree from Trinity College, Dublin in English and Theatre Studies. Playwriting credits include Scripted (Tiger Dublin Fringe 2015) THE WINDSTEALERS (Tiger Dublin Fringe 2015) Memory Palace (Bluepatch Productions, Galway Arts Festival 2010) He and She (Mamuska at the Back Loft Theatre 2010) and 246 Letters (Daguerrotype Theatre Company 2010). Previously, she worked in television production (The Savage Eye, Irish Pictorial Weekly, Ar Intinn Eile) and in literary management.

Kara Manning, Literary Manager, hopes that the reading series will "give playwrights, both emerging and more established, the invaluable opportunity to develop their new work in a supportive, safe environment and will also introduce some Irish playwrights, especially those who might not yet have the New York recognition they merit, to an American audience."
