About the Writers:
LIZZIE HAGSTEDT is a member of the BMI Workshop & the Circle Songbook. Current projects include Oneida with Beth Blatt (Vox Festival at Dartmouth College, Musical Theatre Factory 4X15, upcoming independent reading) and Camo Girl with Nathan Brisby (May 2014 independent reading). In November, she debuted a musicalized setting of David Greig's play Yellow Moon at the Bank Street Theatre. An avid performer, she leaves February 2nd to perform in Virginia Stage's production of Taming of the Shrew. Bassist for the folk-rock band Water & Rye. www.lizziehagstedt.com
CALEB HOYER is a composer/lyricist originally from Pittsburg, KS. This is his third 4@15, having previously written music, book, & lyrics for Hesitation Waltz and collaborating with Kevin Michael Murphy on Dance Moms, which was featured on the Lifetime series. He also wrote the original fairy tale musical Nightfall. He is the recipient of the Alan Menken Award for his music theatre writing. He holds a degree in composition from New York University, where he is currently on faculty as a vocal coach.
SUJIN KIM is a musical theatre/jazz composer living in New York City. She graduated from Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU in May, 2013. She also graduated from Berklee College of Music in Jazz Composition (May, 2011) and from Yonsei University in classical composition (May 2001). Sujin has written music for TV drama and incidental music for websites and ringtones at Soundpolis in Korea in 2005. Her musical, WAIT!, words by Daphny Maman, was read by equity actors at NYU in May 2013. Recently, Sujin was the musical director for, Sunday in the Park With George at Burning Cole Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina in November, 2013. She also music directs concerts for Enob which is a non-profit organization in New York City. Currently, Sujin teaches piano and musical theatre to young children at Junamok Art School in Queens, NY.
DAPHNY MAMAN is a screenwriter, playwright and lyricist, living and working in New York City. Daphny has more than nine years of experience as a professional writer for Television in various roles ? from a Dialogue Writer, through Script Editor and Head Writer to being the Creator and Head Writer of sitcoms and dramas for the Israeli TV, as well as two musical comedy shows. Together with her collaborator Sujin Kim, she recently wrote a full length musical comedy titled Wait!. Her work has been performed at 54Below and the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Daphny is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and the Israeli Screenwriters Association. She holds an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in May, 2013, and a B.A in Film from Tel Aviv University. www.daphnymaman.com
KEVIN MICHAEL MURPHY Writing credits include Craig Stevens' Guide to Making it On Broadway, Crisis! (Of the Quarter Life Persuasion), and Dance Moms: The Musical! (which appeared on Lifetime! Television). Acting Credits: The Book of Mormon (1st National Tour), The Awesome 80's Prom (Off-Broadway), Newsadoozies (Upright Citizen's Brigade). He is also a creator and host of the Bistro Award winning concert series, If It Only Even Runs a Minute. Kevin is a voice teacher currently on the faculty at NYU Steinhardt and the NYC Vocal Studio.
ALEX RUBIN is a New York City-based playwright and lyricist. Her songs have been featured in concerts at 54 Below, The Laurie Beechman Theatre, Temple University, CCM, Broadway Sessions, The Triad, Le Poisson Rouge, The Duplex, and The Metropolitan Room. Alex is a member of the BMI Workshop, the recipient of the 2006 Francis Ford Coppola Award, a 2012 SPACE on Ryder Farm resident, a proud member of the Dramatists Guild, and the 2013 Big Vision Empty Wallet Playwriting Fellow. BENJAMIN VELEZ is a graduate of Columbia University where he studied film and wrote music and lyrics for the 114th Annual Varsity Show. He is a composer/lyricist in the Advanced BMI workshop where he was named the Jerry Harrington award winner in 2012. His work has been featured at NYMF, the NEO concert series, and the Cutting Edge Composers series. This past summer, his original musical Afterland had a developmental workshop at the Yale Institute of Music Theater, directed by Mark Brokaw. While originally from Miami, he is now proud to call himself a Brooklynite.
KATHRYN HATHAWAY is an interdisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn. Her plays and musicals have been performed and developed at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, The Flea Theater, New Dramatists, The Bushwick Starr, Dixon Place, The Prelude Festival, New York Musical Theatre Festival, Joe's Pub, the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop and the Yale Institute For Music Theater. She is a MacDowell Colony fellow, an alumna of Barnard College, and received her MFA in playwriting from Brooklyn College.
BEN BAKER (Music Director) is a versatile New York City-based pianist. He works extensively as a coach and accompanist with vocal soloists and choirs, having appeared numerous times at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as a choral accompanist. He also performs with several jazz and pop ensembles, works as a studio musician, church musician, and music director, sings with the professional Manhattan Chorale, and maintains an active private teaching studio. His recent Steinhardt (A)MD credits include New Student Cabaret, Carousel, The Marriage of Figaro, and Fiorello. He holds a master's degree in jazz piano performance from NYU and bachelor's degrees in music and math from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
BRIAN BLYTHE (Director) celebrates 20 years as a NYC-based musical theatre artist this year, having worked as a musical theatre performer, director, choreographer, writer, teacher and theatre administrator.
