Mario Cantone to Play P-Town's Art House, 8/4 & 5

Mario Cantone, star of TV's Sex and the City, Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show, and Broadways Assassins and Laugh Whore, for which he was Tony-nominated, will join the Broadway at The Art House series for two shows only, on Aug 4 & 5, joined by host Seth Rudetsky at the piano. For tickets please visit www.ptownarthouse.com or call 508-487-9222.

Mario Cantone is a celebrated New York stage actor, stand-up comedian, and television and film star. He gained recent critical acclaim for his Tony-nominated one-man show Laugh Whore, seen both at the Cort Theatre on Broadway and as a filmed Showtime special. Prior to that he starred in the Tony-winning musical Assassins by Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman. Both of these hit shows were directed by four-time Tony-winner Joe Mantello. Cantone has also appeared on Broadway in The Violet Hour, in The Public Theater's production of Shakespeare's The Tempest, and made his Broadway debut in Terrence McNally's award-winning play Love! Valor! Compassion! when he replaced Nathan Lane in the roll of Buzz. He's also been seen Off-Broadway in Shakespeare in the Park's Taming of the Shrew, as well as in The Crumple Zone and June Moon.

On television, Cantone gained fame as Anthony, Charlotte's wedding-planner-with-attitude. On Comedy Central, his performances have been featured on The USO Comedy Tour, Chappelle's Show. Other television credits include appearances on Late Night with David Letterman, Oprah, Martha, The View, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, and Men in Trees. He has also been featured in the films Surf's Up, The Aristocrats, Quiz Show, Mousetrap, and the Sex and the City movies.

Mario has performed his irreverent stand-up comedy at a wide range of venues, including Carnegie Hall, where he warmed up for jazz great Shirley Bassey, to performances at Atlantic City "Resorts," and Caroline's on Broadway. Over the years his routines have included musical parodies of Judy Garland, Jim Morrison, Peggy Lee, Bruce Springsteen and Liza Minnelli.
He got his start hosting the local New York children's show Steampipe Alley, where he was known for slipping-in sly pop culture innuendo that adults could enjoy. Peter Marks of The New York Times wrote that, "In the realm of outrageously, joyful stand-up, there is the shrieking, wind-up toy sensibility of Mario Cantone, a comedian of extravagant tantrums and extravagant gifts… he is a proponent of the comedy of outrage." The Art House is outrageously excited to welcome this gifted comedy and music star to Provincetown on August 4th and 5th!

Broadway at The Art House is sponsored by The Anchor Inn Beach House, Cape Air, and Ptown Bikes.

The Art House is located at 214 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA 02657
