The award-winning Company Theatre announces the premiere of an annual Winter Shorts Play Festival, featuring original ten-minute short plays submitted and selected from the New England playwright community. Playwrights are invited to submit their original work to be considered for inclusion on or before September 5, 2013. The one-day festival will premiere on Saturday, February 1, 2014, with performances at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm, featuring works written on the theme of "Winter Heat: plays that explore the playfulness, passion, pleasure, and power of interpersonal relationships".

The Winter Shorts Play Festival is The Company Theatre's inaugural new works event, inspiring support for emerging playwrights, igniting new play production and development. The theatre's mission sustains enrichment of the region's cultural scene by initiating and encouraging participation in new and time-honored theatrical works. As an established non-profit entity, The Company Theatre has maintained a 34-year commitment to provide accessible, affordable and exceptional quality theatrical entertainment and education to area communities.

The Company Theatre was founded in 1979 by artistic directors Zoe Bradford and Jordie Saucerman, joined by music director and conductor Michael Joseph in 1984, forming the artistic leadership team in place today. Their mission has developed over the years to include youth educational programs in the performing and visual arts, as well as apprenticeship opportunities. Today, the theatre serves more than 35,000 patrons yearly with 5 full-scale theatrical productions, 4 youth productions and an annual celebrity concert series. The Company Theatre is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Moss Hart Award, as well as two-time Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) award winner for their spectacular quality productions.

As participants in The Winter Shorts Play Festival, playwrights are afforded the possibility for their original 10-minute plays to be fully staged. Candidates for submission should be local playwrights eager to participate in the process, be available to attend the Festival, and communicate with artistic team. Plays selected for performance will be assigned a Festival staff director who will cast the actors and oversee the production. Audience Choice Awards will be presented to writers, directors and actors at the festival.
