The Boch Center announced that Mark Weld, a Boston-based business leader and real estate investor, has been elected Chairman of its Board of Directors. Weld will succeed outgoing chairman Paul Guzzi, who will continue to serve as Chairman Emeritus. The Center also added two new leaders to its Board of Directors and one new leader to its Board of Overseers. The appointments were ratified at the Center's Annual Meeting on June 13, 2017, which was held at the Wang Theatre and highlighted the organization's FY2017 achievements in live performance, arts education and community programming, and historic venue preservation.

Since 1978, Mark Weld has been an active real estate investor and developer throughout the United States. For the past 20 years, he was an equity partner and now retired Managing Director, overseeing Clarion Partners' New England regional headquarters in Boston, as well as being responsible for all private market acquisition activities in the area. He also served as portfolio manager on behalf of a number of public and private pension fund clients investing in all major property types and markets throughout the United States. Most recently he has also served as an Independent Director for a NYSE listed real estate investment trust.

"On behalf of the Boch Center and the Board of Directors, I am delighted to welcome Mark Weld as our new Chairman," said Josiah A. Spaulding, Jr., President & CEO of the Boch Center. "Mark is not only a respected business leader, but he has a deep passion for the arts and for the work we do. With Mark's business experience and commitment to strengthening this institution, we see many new opportunities and areas of growth on the horizon. This was a very successful year for us - we announced a new naming rights sponsorship with the Boch Family, presented the world premiere of Finish Line: A Documentary Play About the 2013 Boston Marathon, welcomed the 20th anniversary tour of Rent, debuted An American in Paris, expanded ArtWeek, launched a year-long youth employment program, and much more - and we look forward to continuing our role as New England's leading performing arts center. We thank Paul Guzzi for his term as Chairman and for the impact he has made on this institution."

The meeting reelected current Board members (listed here), inducted Mark Weld as Chairman, and welcomed the following to the Board of Directors: John C. MacNeil, Founder, Moody Street Pictures, and Gregory A. White, Managing Director, Thomas H. Lee Partners. Alex Choquette, President, Anchor Management Group, was elected to the Board of Overseers.

"Joe and I have known each other for many years, and it has been a great honor to work more closely with the organization and its staff over the last year," said Mark Weld. "The Center is a leader in performance and community programming, and we have an exceptional Board that is committed to working with the team to elevate its mission and vision over the coming years. We are developing and implementing new programming ideas, leading-edge technology solutions, and innovative approaches to expanding the Center's mission critical education and community engagement programs. The future is very bright!"
