Idaho Arts Charter in Nampa finished off the semester with a musical, ONCE UPON A MATTRESS. Since musicals are bigger productions, they used the stage instead of the black box. The only issue I saw with that is the large stage also serves as the cafeteria and the assembly hall, so the sound system is not the most ideal.

With that being said, I thought the students did a good job with their production. You could tell that the students enjoyed the characters they were playing and they had fun presenting a musical.

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS is a musical based on the story, the princess and the pea. If you love fairy tales, you will love the retelling of this endearing story of Winnifred (the princess played by Brayton Hunt) and Dauntless (the prince portrayed by Ian Kennedy). The tale is told to us by the minstrel (Julia Hasenoehrl) because she was there.

As I have said before, the most exciting part about watching high school productions, it the fact that you can see the raw talent. The love for theatre that those students show can be infectious. It will be exciting to see the students and the program flourish.
