Hi,
This is my first time responding in this message board, after months of enjoying everyone elses messages.
The Mamma Mia tour is FANTASTIC!!!!
I am personal friends with 2 of the 3 leading ladies, and I have to say that Laurie Wells as Donna Sheridan is probably on of the best Donna's I have ever seen. Laurie and I were singers together for a Cruise Line years ago, and we remain friends to this day. She is AMAZING!!! She is the youngest Donna they've had, but her acting and singing are amazing.
Her version of Slipping Through my Fingers in act 2, brought me to tears! And Laura Ware, who plays Rosie is hysterical also.
We met at a major Civic Light Opera here in Southern Ca. years ago doing a production of "Big River", in which I played Huck and she was in the ensemble, and she is amazing in the show as well. The rest of ther cast does an amazing Job as well. Laurie gave a a big tour backstage after the show, and I was completely impressed with how everyone sings backup in the portable sound-proof booths, when not on stage. I thought maybe that part of the show was on click track, but the only part that is I was told , is in the Mega Mix at the end.
I hope this info helps, and I cant wait to see them in it again.
I know they just signed another year contract back in March.

Mamma Mia is playing the Fox Theatre here in Atlanta this week and I caught the show on Tuesday night. I think that the show is in fine shape. The standouts were the female leads. I agree that Laurie Wells is an excellent Donna - she brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the part. Lisa Mandel plays Tonya - and she is terrific - definitely fits the diva-ish role well. Laura Ware was very funny as Rosie. Carrie Manolakos was a perky Sophie - she had a very nice voice. Sean Allan Krill who plays Sam was the best of the "potential Fathers". The weak link in this show, unfortunately, is Corey Greenan who plays Sky. He was just so-so and I didn't believe for a second that he would be getting married to Sophie Sheridan. The ensemble exudes a lot of energy and the entire theatre was up and dancing during the megamix. I think that Bennie, Bjorn, Agnetha, and Anna-frid would be mostly happy with this touring cast. Mamma Mia, paper thin plot and all, is still a fun evening at the theatre - for all unabashed - and all closeted Abba fans, alike.

Haven't seen it, but I was in downtown Atlanta yesterday and noticed the truck. I didn't even know it was here.

The tour is coming to Huntsville, AL in August and then to Birmingham in a year, I think. I really like enjoyed this show. How is the tour set? I realize they can't do all the things that were done on Broadway, but I hear it was scaled back a bit. Is it Equity or non?

re: MAMMA MIA Tour

Here's Lisa Mandel's headshot (and without the Tanya wig)

I caught the tour this past May in Miami Beach. One word: SENSATIONAL!

I've seen the show several times on Broadway and seen the touring version a few times and the audience response with this current tour was electrifying. To my surprise the audience took to clapping along to "Take a Chance on Me" -- they were SOoooo into the show! And yes...Lisa Mandel's Tanya is the vision of sophisticated beauty. No one's EVER captured that elegance before with Tanya. Her "Does Your Mother Know" kinda fell flat, but WHO CARED?! The number still worked, plus her comic timing is sharp. Her first entrance is a sight to be seen. She looked GORGEOUS! Sorta like a young blonde Stephanie Powers.

Yes, the tour's set design is slightly modified, but you can't notice anything different from the Broadway set unless you're really, really familiar with the Broadway incarnation. Nothing is missed whatsoever. At all. Ziltcho.

You're going to have a BLAST!

the tour set is close to the bway set... its a bit smaller and not on a rake stage like tour 1 or bway. There is a different moon and the floor does not go up. The talent makes up for all that. Believe me, im a HUGEEEE fan of the show and have seen it everywhere. Last time i saw tour 2 they were AMAZING!!!!!!

ThankstoPhantom

No floor moving up? That's dissapointing. (I can't understand why, I mean, they have the stage brought in anyway...oh well). Tour 1 was great (except for Dee Hoty). I'm not too sure if I'll be seeing this tour, though.

How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

i thought dee was one of the best parts of tour 1... i was so pleased to see her brought to the bway casst. although when she got there they made a lot of bad casting ideas leaving it to be a bad year for her to be there

Dee is who I saw on Broadway and I didn't think her voice fit the music that well.

^That's why I didn't like her. She was admirable, though.

I mean I was young when I saw it, I just remember thinking she had a hard time with the score. The score is pretty taxing on the leady female, it's a lot of songs to sing and a lot of belting.
