Janet Aldrich returns in "Ben, Virginia And Me: the Liberace Musical" at NYMF

Janet Aldrich returns to the NY stage as Sophie Tucker in Barbara Carole Sickmen and Roger O. Hinson's new musical, "Ben, Virginia and Me: The Liberace Musical" performing at NYMF August 2-6.  

Sophie Tucker first began singing in 1886.  She soon became a "Coon Shouter" performing in blackface, but when her cosmetics case was lost on her way to a New York performance, she went on without blackface and was welcomed with open arms for her big voice, her jazz singing, her bawdy songs and her Yiddish humor.  In this show, Sophie schools the young Liberace (Samuel Floyd) in the benefits of excess on the stage, with the support of Ben Siegel (Eric Briarley) and his girlfriend, Virginia Hill (Haley Hannah).
