Why would Charlie and the Chocolate Factory need to woo Tony voters? Do they even have any nominations?

Since they are tour  producers, they are likely charming them into including their proposed tour in their seasons. Sounds like damage control for a failed Broadway mounting.

Did you even read the article?  It's for the Road Presenters. Only a small percentage of them are also Tony Voters. They want to butter up the people who will book the eventual tour if CHARLIE.

“Dear Evan Hansen” may have overdone it a little this week with a letter to Tony voters from the head of Atlantic Records, which produced the cast album.

“As you listen to the score for ‘Dear Evan Hansen,’ ” Craig Kallman wrote, “please ask yourself those questions we always ask ourselves — is it special, is it compelling, does it stand above the pack, is it an outstanding moment in our cultural life? For us, the answer is a resounding yes to all.”

Um, we’re talking about a Broadway show here, not “The Rite of Spring.”

And people still want to tell me DEH is the underdog, here? So frustrating to see this emotionally manipulative show and marketing scheme working. Seems extremely pretentious and isolating, imo.

The ice cream truck (and yes, I know it's taken from something in the show) also strikes me as maybe being a little tonally weird for a show about teen mental illness and suicide. Though I suppose all shows do this kind of campaigning, so whatever.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I feel like he writes a variation on this article every year around this time.

Bach wrote variations on the same theme as well, and nobody complained. Lol.

But in all seriousness, his articles do seem to follow a pattern, with just the names changed each time.

Riedel writes as if that coffee table book hasn't been out since, maybe, October...

The Road is a multibillion dollar industry?  I don't think so!

Considering 41 theatres with a smaller number of seats than an average road house easily makes a billion dollars in a year, I'd say a "multibillion dollar industry" is probably accurate. That being said, I haven't added up every tour in every city for every week like I have the 41 theatres to verify.

Also, did he say anything about the Waitress dessert trucks last year? Those made an appearance during Tony campaign season last year as well.

The broadwayinchicago Snapchat is full of gifts given to those attending the broadway league conference thing. The Charlie chocolate fountain looked very appetizing.

I will be interested to hear if Bette does attend that shindig this Thursday.  It might be a sign of if she plans on continuing with Dolly in any way.  I still say she needs to take this Dolly to the world.  If not at least London and key US cities.  She did bring "I will eat you last"  to Los Angeles and has said that she loves playing LA.. and she is a touring goddess... she loves touring.

I also wouldn't be surprised if it's one of those numbers that also factors in the surrounding economic impact for hotels, restaurants, travel companies, and other businesses that benefit from the touring shows.
