I imagine that had Sunday been eligible, there might have been four Best Revival nominees, so it wouldn't necessarily take the place of any of the current nominees.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

I think either Penny Fuller, Erin Davey, or Ashley Park could've made it into best featured actress. I'm terms of supporting actor, I think either Philip Boykin or Robert Sean Leonard could've gotten a nod. While I'm sure Jake would've gotten a nom, Annaleigh might've been shut out because of weird award show politics.

What kind of "weird award show politics" do you think would cause a two-time Tony nominee (and recent winner) who gave a near-universally acclaimed performance to be shut out? Ashford almost certainly would have been nominated if eligible, and almost certainly would have replaced Eva Noblezada, whose performance was not met with the kind of acclaim that was predicted for her.

I agree it would've been nominated nted for revival, actor, actress, and lighting. Fuller or Park could've been strong possibilities as well. Fuller, especially, turned in an emotional performance that continued to grow throughout the short run. She and Jake were breathtaking in "Beautiful." I still get chills remembering how they held hands during it.
To clarify, since Annaleigh won her first tony only two years ago. It makes me wonder if she wouldn't get in because of how crowded the category is this year (and we can't pretend like award shows don't take into account previous wins). Don't get me wrong, I adored her performance and would argue her Marie was definitive. If the production was eligible, I would've loved to see Annaleigh and Jake get nominated.

Ashley Park was the best part of the production for me, but I think any actor playing either of the Celestes wouldn't have been nominated in such a strong year. I think it would have received nominations for Jake and Annaleigh, Revival, and Lighting Design.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Yes, being (two-time) previous winners really hurt Christine Ebersole and Patti LuPone in that category.

To be fair, their last wins were ten and nine years ago respectively, but I'll admit to be shortsighted in my previous statements. I can't say I know how tony nominators think, so I'll agree that, in all likelihood, Annaleigh would've been nominated.

I agree with your assessment, icecreambenjamin. But damn do I still wish they'd been given a special Tony for the chromolume. One of the greatest things I've ever seen in the theatre.

I think Annaleigh Ashford would have gotten the nomination. She would have won the award again previously for "Sylvia" except her costar was the incredibly bland, boring and untalented Mathhew Blahderick and he ruined her chances.
