Yea they are not making enough money. It's quite a shame honestly, I liked this show!

Really is a shame. Such a good show that deserves to be doing better.

I wonder when the official announcement will come. I've been hoping the show could at least make it to Tony season just a few weeks away... I really believe Gideon Glick could walk away with a statue in June.

Waiting for it to change to "LIMITED ENGAGEMENT - APRIL FOOLS" cheeky

I know you may be joking, but that would be a stupid April Fool's joke -- turning away potential business.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Yup, and the stupidity of it would make the whole thing even funnier!

That being said, yes, I am joking wink

The power on ATC claims the ad in The Times this weekend says the same thing so I doubt they'd post an Apirl Fools joke in a prominent ad.

That doesn't really mean anything. Often times ticket sites don't synch up with closure announcements right away.

It is only listed on TDF through 4/9, which doesn't indicate anything necessarily either but I imagine that would be the closing date.

I find this kind of bizarre. They've discreetly added this to the website without any additional information and now they're calling it a limited engagement?!

It's also weird they're saying "final performances." That's so vague. Why mention that without giving a closing date?

I'm probably being far too optimistic, but maybe they're using "final performances" as a call to action to try and increase sales to keep the show running until at least June. If you've been thinking about going and now hear you only have a limited time, you may be inclined to pick up tickets now to make sure you don't miss it. Again I'm sure it's unlikely but a guy can dream, right?!

Not really. Posting a closing notice often results in an uptick in business.

This is very disappointing. Finally got to see it this afternoon and it was incredibly moving. Would also love to see Glick take the Tony. Side note: At the BCEFA speech they announced the signed posters would be $50. I picked up one and they charged $40. Now I wonder if they knew they wouldn't be playing much longer.

Sad by this...very much enjoyed this play. Gideon also gave such an amazing performance in it which still has me thinking about it (especially the latter portion of the show) two weeks later.

This is so odd to me. "Final weeks" is one thing, but "final performances" seems more... immediate. Almost as if they were closing tomorrow or next Sunday.

Try to remember that THE FANTASTICKS announced its closing a few years ago only to announce 2 mysterious backers would supplement things when the grosses fell. (But the staff still had trouble cashing their checks)

If I remember correctly, Equity only has to give a week's notice to cast and crew, so a closure by next Sunday isn't too much of an exaggeration.

I'm almost positive that you're correct as well. I just feel like if closure IS that imminent you'd think an official announcement of some sort would have been made if that was the header on their official website today. As of 5 minutes ago, it still read "final performances." Just a curious thought, that's all.

The Fantasticks has also been running since, like, 1802.

Perhaps wait till the end of this week's performances?  Several shows announced closure or did close at the end of the week.

I was at the 2pm show this afternoon and, unfortunately, the mezzanine was nearly empty. It appeared as if only the $34 tickets in the last two rows had been sold and so the ushers allowed everyone to move.

I'm back to caring about this situation, as my New York plans are back on, and I'm interesting in seeing this show next Sunday evening. I just don't know if there will be a show to see by then, or if I'll be seeing the finale.

My gut instinct tells me that it will close next Sunday after the 2pm matinee... in so doing, it would allow IATSE to start striking the set and vacating the theatre. Several hours earlier which might help them clear out the theatre a day or more sooner. This becomes extra important, because by them never performing the Sunday evening shows, extra time is bought since Equity day for IATSe/Actors is mondays which the theatres go dark... I hope I'm wrong, but judging from early search results for the 4/9 7pm performance, they wouldn't have to refund that many tickets as so few have been sold even now... ????
