Hi all,

I'm sorry to contribute to the much-maligned "Opinion" genre of threads, but I would genuinely appreciate some feedback on this question. I'm coming into town next month as part of a group package. We're seeing Hello Dolly! on Friday night (this was the selling point of the trip for me) and we're seeing The Little Foxes on Saturday night. I'm also, on my own, seeing Great Comet at the Saturday matinee and War Paint for the Sunday matinee. (These tickets are already purchased and non-refundable.)

I love Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon and I'm sure they're going to be great in their roles, but I'm much more of a stereotypical musical queen. In a lesser season I would have just shrugged it off and attended the play, but there are other shows I want to see and this is my only opportunity to get into the city for the foreseeable future. I'm considering selling/ditching this ticket (my Little Foxes ticket for 8pm April 8th, to be clear) for a chance to see a musical that's not already on my itinerary, (and I'm leaning heavily towards Come From Away}. What say you, BWW glitterati? Should I see another musical, or will Little Foxes be a show I should not miss?

I can't speak to the production itself, but I always weigh the chances of an opportunity to see the other show at a later date.  Come From Away will likely be around for at least a year -- or we can hope  Little Foxes is a once in a lifetime.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

That's a tough question. I'm lucky enough to get to NYC a few times a year so my opinion might be a little biased due to availability. I jumped at the chance to see Little Foxes, but keep in mind that I love the women in the leads as well as the storyline (check out the Bette Davis film if you want to get a taste for the play.) I am also going to see Come From Away because I, too, prefer musicals over plays. Is there a way to fit them both into your trip? I can't tell you much about this production of Little Foxes because there isn't much information yet, but CFA has been getting rave reviews across the board so it all boils down to your taste.

"Come From Away will likely be around for at least a year -- or we can hope  Little Foxes is a once in a lifetime"

My dilemma is that's true for both titles, though. The Broadway cast of Come From Away is a very special thing and this may be the only chance I have to see it. (And I'm sure there will be productions of CFA ad nauseum in the foreseeable future at every regional theater in the country.) Conversely, Little Foxes is a show that has been around for a long time and this production may or may not be a rare and special thing.

That's very true. If you really do enjoy musicals more AND you are dying to see the CFA cast, just go see that! Like I said (and I'm sure you know...) it's adored by the critics and posters on this board for the most part. I'm sure it won't disappoint. I'm very excited to see it next week on my trip.

Thanks for the input, Jshan05, Kinky Boy, and Dramamama. You helped me make up my mind.

On a related note, if anyone would like to grab an inexpensive ticket to the evening performance of The Little Foxes on Saturday, April 8 feel free to PM me!
