Hi All!

I looked through the rules and think its ok to post here.  I sat this morning for rush tickets and bought an extra pair for tonight's show.  I thought a friend would be able to join us but he can't get out of a commitment.

If anyone is interested in them, id like to be able to cover mine and my daughters ticket fee if possible.

PM me for more info.

Debra

So, in other words, "Debra", you're looking to scalp a pair of rush seats for at least double what you paid for them???  Why don't you and your "daughter" just sell them to someone on the cancellation line tonight at face value??

How would they see the show for free that way?!

I see people offering to sit in line all the time in exchange for for buying their tickets for other shows.  I was in line at 4:30 am this morning and yes, if we can recover the cost of the tickets, that would help us be able to see another show while we are in town.  If it's wrong for me to ask, I'm sorry.

So when Debra does it, its greed... but when Stubhub, Broadway.com, and countless other resellers do it in bulk, legally, it's just good clean capitalism? While I would never try to sell anything over face value (personal philosophy), if I'm *buying*, I'll give my money to the Debras of the world, not The Man.

No, no one likes it when they sell over face value on stubhub, either.

Fair enough. I'm just saying that if (IF) her story is true, her motive was not profit, unlike the websites. She was not intentionally taking an affordable seat and turning it into a more expensive one. If she can maximize her value and see another show, I'm not going to judge her too harshly.

You are just looking for face value right?

Double face value, so that her and her daughter can see the show for free.

I think the issue here is that we've all been the people in line past the point when the tickets ran out that morning, so it's not about doubling the price of a rush ticket as much as the person who was also in line early who had to go home without a ticket as a result...

SRO is $42 so Debra is asking for $84.

i don't think Debra did anything wrong at all. However, there is the risk that no one here may take her offer. To me, a ticket is only worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Given DEH is a hot show right now, I think Debra will be able to sell these tickets had they been actual seats. For SRO, I'm not so sure. Stubhub prices for DEH for an actual seat can go down to $100.

No, she's asking for $168. She wants to sell those tickets for basically $84 each to make the money she spent on her own tickets.

Yes, just to cover or tickets, I assure you my story is true.  We came in to town on a very tight budget and hoping to see as many shows as we can while here.  That's it.  Getting there so early was my way of making sure I could take her to see the show.

There's a difference between rush tickets and standing room tickets. Were these standing room or rush? $84 each seems a lot for standing room. I might as well just pay regular price for a seat.

I'm sure you bought them hoping to sell and save yourself money.   But you did deny two other people, ALSO standing in line, the chance to see the show.

I truly dont understand why what I did is any different than others who I see posting many times a day on the Hamilton messages offering to sit in exchange for covering ticket costs. This thread has gotten to the point of folks saying pretty rotten things to me here and privately.  I am not a line sitter charging $25 an hour or someone who set out to cheat anyone.  My daughter and I have very little to spend and I thought it could be a way for someone who really wanted to see the show but didn't have the time to wait in line.  Anyone could have gotten in line as early as we did to get their own tickets.  We offered our friends who live here the chance to go with us and when we didn't hear from them in time, we bought the tickets anyway.  All I was doing was trying to recover my money and hopefully make make our cost less.

As someone who stood in line earlier this week with intent to buy two SRO tickets, but only bought one once my friend verified she couldn't come, this post rubs me the wrong way.  Full of bad karma.  I feel sorry for people who were behind you in line that were possibly turned away.

At Hamilton, paying a line sitter (or covering the line sitter's ticket) reduces your cost over what the secondary market charges, or even an $849 premium may cost, and there are no rush tickets there, so there is no guarantee, so the line sitter is risking a lot more time, as some tickets free up minutes before showtime.

It isn't really comparable to DEH, especially since you are already buying heavily-discounted tickets, but more importantly, you are taking tickets away from the people behind you in line. When I didn't know if anyone was able to join me for a show that night, I would only buy one ticket, mainly because I wanted as many people in line to benefit.

That said, I have also been known to resell tickets on StubHub/Ticketmaster/etc., but usually if I'm not going or if I bought extras to cover my costs. One time, I heard the people next to me complaining about what they paid, and I held up my ticket, and said, "Let me guess... this guy screwed you, too?" while pointing to my name on the ticket, heh.

I just have less concern for people who can afford paying hundreds extra vs. ripping off the people trying to experience things on the cheap in line directly behind me.
