While I didn't think the musical itself was that great, it's still quite an accomplishment for any Broadway show to recoup.

So nice, Neon said it twice!

I saw it a few month ago and I'm taking my mom to see it in March the week before Jessie leaves. I'm excited to go back!

Wonderful news! I finally let myself listen to the Sara Bareilles album of songs from the show. Jessie Mueller was great but I'm actually really excited to see who they'll cast as Jenna after this. Hopefully this will run for a while.

Wow congrats, I honestly thought that Waitress's running costs were a lot higher compared to their gross potential.

Happy for this show... and hope to see it sometime in 2017.

I was just asking the recoup question in the weekly grosses thread a few days ago - I guess the timing was just about right!

a musical must open in the spring to be a spring musical. Hamilton opened 9 months before the spring of the 15-16 season...

So Waitress and The Front Page, the only shows of last year to announce they've recouped?

I don't remember Hamilton announcing that it has recouped? But undoubtly it has? Same for Aladdin must be in the black now? Cannot be long before School of Rock announces?

Dear Evan Hansen, A Bronx Tale, Cats and Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comets of 1812 are all on course to announce in time? Then Hello Dolly can announce it has recouped before it has opened with $25m in the bank?

For all intents and purposes Aladdin has recouped as Disney in the past has held off on touring a show until it recoupes/does not announce recoupment when it happens.

NPAGCO1812 is extremely expensive to run and as far as we know it is not on target to recoup when Groban leaves over the summer.

School of Rock should be very close to recouping, unless ALW has his hand in the pot like Berry Gordy did with Motown.

Hello Dolly might not actually recoup, if Bette Middler does not stay with the production long enough. I would imagine she is getting both an upfront salary and a % on the back end causing her to be up there with Tom Hanks and Al Pacino in the 6 figure weekly salary club.

The phrase is "for all intents and purpose" not "intensive purposes."

Hello Dolly WILL recoup. That's all.

@bdn223, despite a rocky start in your initial phrasing, I agree with everything you say. I don't think we can say what Dolly's fortunes are until we know how well Midler holds up. It is the same situation as Comet.

Congrats to all. Second to Hamilton for the season according to the article...."Not too shabby"...in the words of Joe the diner owner. Let them continue to shine for a long time...

I'm still surprised that TCP didn't recoup before it closed, but oh well. What was The Bronx Tale's investment? It doesn't have a star casting, and their grosses have been fairly steady and impressive. Al Menken probably didn't come cheap, but that's about it right?

I'd say Waitress and A Bronx Tale are on the save level as far as moderately budgeted musicals go. And both have been performing well. So do the math. It took Waitress how long? So maybe in that same time frame - if Bronx Tale keeps running - it will recoup.

Question-How does Waitress recoup before Hamilton when Hamilton has been running somewhat significantly longer? (Unless it did and I just missed it)

I'm not saying length of run indicates when recouping will happen, but neither Hamilton nor Waitess were super expensive (I think?) and we alaaallllll know that Hamilton prices were through the roof and still are to great degree of merely being the hot ticket, allowing for a potentially faster recouping time. So, how did Waitress recoup first? I also must say, recouping is impressive on its own, but recouping less than a year after opening? That's damn impressive. Matilda took about two years and Wicked took and year and a half.

I dont even know if any of the most recent Mouse House shows recouped.
