Gee...and I just paid some big coins for her concert in May with Lionel Richie. I thought the worst thing was she wouldn't show up. Now it's, if she shows up, can she lip sync correctly?
Maybe I'm not understanding properly, but from what I'm hearing, weren't only her pre-recorded high notes the parts intended to be fully lip-synced? And I'm just hearing a slight sweetener track over which she was supposed to sing live. I think that's what she's generally been doing in concert these days.
For what it is worth... while the responsibility of this performance is hers... Mariah was setup to fail. Shame on the segment producers and the producers of the show in general. I am not a big fan of Mariah's. But I have seen her in concert recently and she puts on a great show. Why couldn't she just go up there with her band and sing live?
Heck...from what I saw, she could barely walk without assistance.
I'm not sure I can see how she was set up to fail. Performers know how to lip synch. It's not like she was a last minute replacement.
Many performers won't sing in the cold.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Ouch. I hope it got better than the clips I saw where she spent most of the time complaining about the sound check and feedback and almost no effort in singing/miming or the choreography. She could have had an extra hour of rehearsal time if she'd opted to wear something more appropriate (for the climate, setting, audience AND her) instead of being stitched into whatever that was.
I'm sure it still wasn't bad enough to have her taken off of Donald Trump's inauguration wishlist though...
reports are that she was drunk, but that there were also audio problems. Her monitors weren't on & she apparently couldn't hear the track. Yet all of her dancers were on point.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It's pretty sad to think about how incredible she was in the 90's. I feel sorry for the younger people who weren't really around for that and know her for this. Even her 2005 comeback was miraculous, but in the past several years she's been a train wreck with flop albums, American idol, strange tv performances, a hallmark movie, and a reality show that isn't rating very well.
She, and her devoted fans confuse the hell out of me. I know several people who are LIVID that anyone suggested last night that she couldn't sing. And don't you dare say that this was in any way her fault and she gave an AMAZING performance "under the circumstances". Like her AMAZING performance at the Christmas Tree lighting last year when the vocals were leaked proving she no longer is able to sing, well "it was cold out and nobody can sing in the cold". People will excuse her any and everything, never acknowledging the fact that she sadly, just can not sing anymore.
I hear the hight notes on the track, but other than that, I just hear an instrumental track and she was supposed to sing to that but she did not sing because she couldn't hear the monitor?
Why didn't she just say: stop the track please, I can't hear myself. It's not like we heard a fully recorded vocal or anything.

From what I saw, her second song was a complete track with which she attempted to lip sync to but didn't succeed. Stars at 3:56 mark. https://youtu.be/ZU1pGJW5aLs you can see she completely stops singing while you still hear her voice.
She lip synced (badly) the first song. She was supposed to lip sync Emotions but they played the wrong track without the vocals, the monitors would not have been on because she was not supposed to live. When she realised it was the wrong track she just talked, she didn't even really try. Her whole 'I can't hear the music' is bollox, the dancers (bless them) heard it fine. She just knew she couldn't sing that song live anymore so didn't bother.
on the 3rd song she could sing along to her own voice but decided against that as well so put the mic down and just made an ass of herself. She could barely walk, she was a hot mess. This seems to happen to her a lot.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
It's the exact same medley she did in her Christmas show, and for that she was sining live because when she went to do her trills at the end of Emotions, she got the first one, missed the second one, and got the third one. Not sure if the other high notes were prerecorded or not, but she sold it well regardless.
I think she def was just lip synching given the conditions. I mean, didn't we all rip on Idina for butchering "Let It go" on the same telecast a few years back? It's tough to sing that late and that cold and with minimal rehearsal, plus you're outside battling the elements.
