It's PBS, so local times will vary. In New York, it's on Channel 13 from 9:15pm - 10:45pm.

The full program is songs, and ballet music from Rodeo, by Aaron Copland; Billy's Soliloquy from Carousel; Strauss' Blue Danube Waltz; selections from The Sound of Music; selections from My Fair Lady; and The Carousel Waltz. The singers are Paulo Szot and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. Alan Gilbert conducts.

You're very welcome, RaisedOnMusicals. I am only shamelessly self-bumping this because in many places, the concert is being broadcast live at 8pm EST on the East Coast.

Any occasion on which you can hear Robert Russell Bennett's original full orchestrations of Rodgers' (and Loewe's) music is a special treat and especially when you can hear them with the extra strings and the other instruments a symphony orchestra can provide. I assume we all know how good Szot is with this music and Joyce DiDinato is a fabulous lyric-coloratura mezzo who is also a terrific actress. I am really looking forward to this.

I can only assume Channel 13 in New York is tape delaying this because they are in the middle of a Downton Abbey fundraising marathon and they don't want to interrupt in the middle of an episode. They are evidently presenting it between episodes.

Watching this in Los Angeles. The orchestrations are positively seductive, so rich and lush.

But the strangest thing happened. As they played the intro to Climb Every Mountain I'm hearing the lyrics "When you walk through a storm...." in my head, and lo and behold, the first words out of Joyce DiDonato's mouth were "When you" then a momentary pause, then "Climb every mountain....". I realize it's the same composer, but I never realized the intro music was =that= identical, to the point where she made the same mistake I made. Very strange.

Sarcasm is an allergic reaction to stupid people.

My husband and I snuggled up to watch this concert, but overall found the orchestrations lacked the "pop" of the Boston Pops. They do this material so much better.

Also, while I love Paulo Szot, Billy's Soliloquy was the wrong choice for him. He seemed to lose steam halfway through, and his performance was flat and boring. I was really crossing my fingers wishing for him to sing Some Enchanted Evening. Oh well.

John Raitt captured the passion of this song beautifully.
