For all those who thought Francis was this big reformer when it came towards the Church's view of the LGBTQ community. Remember, this was the Advocate's "Person of the Year" not long ago:
“The Church, while profoundly respecting the persons in question, cannot admit to the seminary or to holy orders those who practice homosexuality, present deep-seated homosexual tendencies or support the so-called ‘gay culture,’”
Pope Sunshine's Smiley Happy Message of Lemony Fresh Tolerance for all doesn't mesh his ongoing embrace of the Phelps Doctrine -- God Hates Fags. This should surprise NO ONE except the really aggressively devoted.
"If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about the answers." Thomas Pynchon, GRAVITY'S RAINBOW
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away." Philip K. Dick

Not a viewpoint I personally hold, but worth bringing up for the sake of discussion: in theological-fantasy novel "Krampus, the Yule Lord," Krampus (an earth spirit; essentially an atheist Norse demigod) suggests that the mere act of having faith or "being spiritual" at all is an unmitigated attack on the world and all those who live in it, since it diminishes the importance of every material living thing.
At least we've come to the point that this is a non partisan issue compared to most. There's no going back from the achievements that have been made for gays.
