It'll be interesting to see how much, if any, of the London cast comes over. In the films, Rowling was always adamant that only British actors be used.
So of course I'm hoping for the original London cast to transfer (but I doubt they could negotiate a deal that big with AEA) or another dream casting would just to have the film stars reprise there roles. And I am one who would agree with the idea that the cast should all remain British.
However if we are setting up a dream cast and not using any of the above options:
Young Kids: New/Undiscovered, Broadway-Debuts
Harry: John Gallagher Jr or Mathew Morrison
Ron: Will Chase, Allen Leech
Hermoine: Heather Headley or Lea Michele or Audra McDonald (does anyone know if Hermoine will now always be cast as a black actress, or will it just remain colour-blind casted)
Minerva: Patti Lupone or Julie Andrews (a small enough role that maybe she could be featured) or Penelope Wilton
Snape:Alan Cumming
Ginny:Michelle Dockery
Malfoy: Rob James-Collier
Delphi: Laura Osnes or Sutton Foster or Sophie McShera
Voldemort: Ramin Karimloo,
Hagrid: John Goodman came to mind, maybe its because of the Front Page, or Harvey Fierstein or Brendan Coyle
Dumbledore: Ian McKellen or Joel Grey
Umbridge: Meryl Streep(1), Donna Murphy or Barbara Cook
Theatrefanboy1, I don't want to spoil the plot for you but most of those characters are glorified ensemble roles. They'll never be played by big named stars as they only appear as those paticular character for a short time and then change into either another character or they join the ensemble.
To be fair, Jamie Parker is probably as known for musicals as he is for plays now. But yes for the most part the roles wont be played by musical theatre stars.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It's possible to have an entirely British cast and they can all be AEA members.

There are British actors apart of AEA Matthew James Thomas and Chloë Campbell just to name a few

Yes, you can be a part of multiple unions or be British, Canadian etc and be part of the AEA, however, I believe there are American theatre restrictions as to how many British, Canadian, etc you can have in a production. Simply put to me was that the American unions want to provide work for American actors so in order to do so they restrict the number of foreign imports coming in. So with a show like HP, yes they could probably quite easily get the four lead adult actors to transfer, however they (AEA) would want something to balance out the four british actors... which is why I do believe the even trade rule is still in practice.
Sorry, if you knew this and I'm just repeating stuff.

I would assume AEA, and any union, would want to protect their members. Not just American's as a whole.
Laura Michelle Kelly is another example.

My source is a friend who works directly with Rowling who told me she's not allowing it to open anywhere without a full British cast. Of all the plays equity has allowed an entire ensemble to transfer from the west end, I don't think this is the one they're going to want to start a battle over. It would suck if they had to limit their casting choices to American Equity British actors. I'd love for the entire original cast to come. They're phenomenal.
Also, Hagrid is definitely in the play.
