I received my Tilles Center 2016-17 brochure in the mail today and was quite surprised at the lineup.
The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts is in central Nassau County, on the CW Post campus of LIU. If you were driving there, you would get off the LIE at exit 39. It's a very attractive venue, with a 2240 seat main stage and a 950 seat recital hall (Hillside).
On Saturday, October 22, they are holding the New York Pops gala with Brian d'Arcy James and Megan Hilty. Tickets are $125, $95, $65 and $40 dollars. If you want to spring for $750, you can attend the pre-concert dinner and the post-concert cabaret with open bar.
On the preceding Saturday night Ted Sperling of South Pacific and The King and I fame will present A Broadway Romance starring Santino Fontana and Laura Osnes. (Laura seems incapable of turning down any invitation to perform. I wonder if she does weddings.) Tickets are $83, $68 and $53.
Leaping all the way forward to next April 29th, Ted Sperling is back with Kelli O'Hara and other guests in a production of Victor Herbert's Babes in Toyland, with a fully orchestrated original score. Since suggested age is 8+, this could be oriented toward children.
Although this is a nice enough lineup, their list of cabaret artists I thought was almost sensational. The cabaret shows are presented in the intimate 950 seat Hillside recital hall. Two shows are presented at 7:30 and 9:30, with tickets priced at $43 and $53 dollars depending on the time of the show chosen.
Chita Rivera, Friday, November 18th. One of her shows is warning that not many tickets left.
Rebecca Luker, Friday, December 2nd. Expect to hear a lot of Jerome Kern. (Does anyone else think that she should give more attention to her hair and makeup? She is more attractive than that photo indicates.)
