VISITING FROM NYC.  need your suggestions!~

So Far Ive seen-

Impossible.  13 pounds on today tix.  great stall seats in the middle on the aisle. THREE STARS (enjoyed it.  was impressed by some tricks.  unimpressed by many others.  the show drags on and on but there was some okay stuff)

Titanic.   15 pounds on today tix.  THREE STARS  seat was fine.  I sat further back to give myself some more personal space.  performers were lovely.  show is lovely.  direction was boring.  it was WAY too hot a matinee.  I left at intermission.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK. 15 pounds on today tix.  FOUR STARS.  free upgrade to second row stall seats… but moved further back to get more room.  amazingly talented actors.  slow start, but I loved the storytelling.  Even though its 25 years old its in great shape, and I was still very entertained by the simple storytelling.  Its clearly an inspiration for THE 39 STEPS.

FUNNY GIRL.  18 pounds at the TKTS booth.  AMAZING seat center stalls row Q.  but WOW i was bored.  Sheridan was shmackting it up.  She's not right for the role.  she's not jewish enough.  she's not natural.  she was putting on an act.  she also doesn't really have the vocal chops.  GREAT brooklyn accents.  Ugly design.  boring direction.  TWO STARS

THE TRUTH- 23 pounds today tix in stalls.  BEST PLAY ON THE WEST END.  5 STARS.  BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN.  GREAT COMEDY. GREAT DESIGN.  GREAT ACTING.  ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL SHOW BEST THING IVE SEEN ON THE WEST END!  HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

THE STRIPPER- 15 pounds today tix in stalls.  WORST thing I've seen.  i left at intermission because it was JUST terrible.  The cast was trying hard but the book was TERRIBLE.  direction was awful.  music and lyrics were bleh… who cares.

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG- 20 pounds box office ticket in stalls. Great show. Great talent. Lots of laughs. Gets a bit repetitive but I was still laughing hysterically. 4 stars.

Im also thinking about

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (heard its awful?)

Romeo and Juliet (heard its boring?)

Showboat (snooze?)

The Railway Children

The bank robbery play.

Harry Potter……. good luck.

Groundhog Day??

Recommendation of whats the best show at the globe right now??

The body guard???

Ive seen wicked, kinky boots, matilda, curious incident, Beautiful, Mama Mia etc in NYC…..

I've seen in the heights. and american idiot.  but if these are good productions??

thanks for your assistance!

Show Boat is absolutely fantastic, I wouldn't miss it. The new production of In The Heights is quite good too

You are getting some great deals on Today Tix.  (I paid 25 pounds for "day seats" for The Truth in the stalls.  It was probably our favorite show of the 8 we saw in 6 days two weeks ago.  You can see my short reviews in the My London Trip thread)

Based on comments on the UK Message board:

Some good word of mouth on Groundhog Day.

Unreachable at the Royal Court with former Dr. Who actor Matt Smith - this is a play in development.  The script is changing during the preview process daily.  Some good words though about how it has been shaping up.

I really enjoyed The Threepenny Opera at the National (but it will be streamed into cinemas in September).  It is bonkers - but strong performances throughout.  I paid 30 pounds for a center stalls seat day of show.

Did not see "Beautiful" on your list.

The cast for Richard III at the Almeida is worth looking into.

Mixed comments about Through the Mill at Southwark - it's a play about Judy Garland with three different actors playing Ms. Garland at different stages of her life.  The youngest actor gets most of the good comments.

The Go Between may be worth a go.  It is "interesting".  It is definitely different.  I don't know what Today Tix is doing.  But, you can get a center stall seat at the box office for 25 pounds if you ask nicely for "day seats".

I think I read that there is some kind of returns/cancellation line at Harry Potter - so it is possible to get a seat.  But, theatre is dark on Sunday and Monday.

Skip Charlie.  I saw Romeo and Juliet and some of it is very good. Some of it is not.  Act One has thrilling elements. Act Two is a bore.

Sorry you left Titanic at the interval.  But, I understand the heating issue.

thanks for your feedback @ggersten!

Im pretty good at finding the BEST deals possible!

I'd love to see Groundhog Day!  It seems pretty solid sold out.  Maybe they have day seats.

and harry potter is a big one for me!

Threepenny has no performance until August?

Unreachable…. eh…  Richard III… eh….The go-between… zzzzz…...

thanks for your help and tips!

oops about Threepenny Opera - didn't realize it was on hiatus for a few weeks.

Certainly understand the zzzz about GoBetween.

Oh, we really enjoyed Sunny Afternoon when it was at the Hampstead before the West End transfer.  I read that there are very inexpensive seats available - so if you like The Kinks - that's certainly a go.

I thought Show Boat was glorious! Unreachable may sound like a snooze but was actually pretty interesting & funny. Cuttin' It was fantastic, but might of finished it's run at The Yard. Couldn't of cared less about In The Heights, and got good seats to Charlie through TodayTix rush yet still thought it wasn't a good night at the theatre. Just pretty boring & uninteresting songs.
