Carmen posted on Twitter, asking her followers to select their dream show for her to sing from at her concert. Now is our chance, guys! Personally, I'd love to hear her sing anything from a Jason Robert Brown show, but will frankly be thrilled to see what she does with anything. What a fun and cute idea!
I started brainstorming on roles she should play and realized that there was one or more roles in a show that started with almost every letter in the alphabet that she would be great as. Some of these are better fits than others, and some roles she'd grow into with age, but I had a theme to follow. Haha! Anyway, here's one fanboy's list:
Annie Oakley in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN Reno Sweeney in ANYTHING GOES Mona in THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS Sally Bowles in CABARET Velma in CHICAGO Joanne in COMPANY The Chaperone in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE Evita in EVITA Flora in FLORA THE RED MENACE Dorothy Shaw in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES Irene Malloy in HELLO, DOLLY! Rosemary in HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING The Baker's Wife in INTO THE WOODS Narrator in JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT Lilli in KISS ME KATE Desiree in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC Mabel in MACK AND MABEL Mame or Vera in MAME Eliza in MY FAIR LADY Diana in NEXT TO NORMAL Luisa in NINE Nancy in OLIVER! Who's gone? I've seen some clips online and the set seems incredible! Going Tuesday can't wait. Wanted to see if anyone who has already attended had any reports
She's incredible. Quite a few songs from Bright Star (including 4 that were cut). She also sings a medley of her early roles (Phantom, Les Miz, Wicked, and Secret Garden) as well as an original or two. I've been to quite a few shows at 54 Below, and that was by far my favorite.
tyleramullen, I think she would be a perfect Baker's Wife. I've seen a clip of her with Jason Danieley in SITPWG and she seems wonderful as Dot (and he a terrific George). I wish I could see this show! I know it's pretty rare that they record 54 Below shows (there have been I think 22 recordings out of hundreds of shows that have been done there) but this would be so wonderful to have.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
Just to correct, she sings from Ragtime not Secret Garden!
I've been to one of her concerts and she's just an incredible performer. So versatile and truly connects to the material she's singing. Not to mention she's hilarious and it really shows what a good time she's having up there!!
gypsy- she announced at the beginning of the concert they were recording it! And Carmen has said in interviews lately that an album is in "talks" so here's hoping!
I was there last night. She is truly an incredible performer. So down to earth, versatile, funny, and she knows how to work the stage. I was sitting at the bar rail and there were 6 chairs set up between that and the bar for a stand by crowd! She sold out and then some! Had asked what is next for her and she said she's going to be doing work for 2 months in LA but will then return to NY. Here's to hoping her next bway show is right around the corner!
Her range is incredible. Both vocally and stylistically. And her performances are captivating. She is radiant.
I didn't know her work before BRIGHT STAR, but was immediately drawn to her during that. And became an instant fan. I look forward to whatever she does next.
What at an incredible treat last night was! I'm so thrilled for her that she has a sold-out 4 show run there! I wish I could go again!
"Two drifters off to see the world. There's such a lot of world to see. . ."
I went last Tuesday and I was so bowled over! Love, love, love her. I already thought she was incredible, but seeing her in such an intimate space... There are no words. She exceeded expectations, which I didn't think was possible. There were some really funny fan interactions, including one where she asked a fan, "Are you having an orgasm?"
Management actually told me I couldn't film, which was the first time (they didn't announce beforehand like at Jeremy Jordan's show). I know Carmen said it was being recorded, but then later I saw 54 Below had Periscope'd some songs, and I was hoping that wasn't what she meant.
If anyone was already planning on recording a couple numbers, please do. It's not like they make you delete any footage you captured. It would be such a shame for it not to be filmed in high quality for posterity. There was a British song she covered and I just loved her version, as well as an original she wrote for her friends back in London, which was just lovely (in fact, I was wondering who she was "covering" only to find out it was an original!). Would love to hear/see them again.
It's wonderful that she can oversell out 4 shows. Now she really knows how much we/NY loves her, and we're not just paying lip service!
Hairspray0901, I was at last night show too sitting at the bar rail. You must have been sitting right next to me.
mpkie, I was able to get some videos of the concert on my phone. Management didn't say anything about not being able to not be record the show. I've done it many times in the past for other shows without any issues. Here's the link to one of my videos from the show on YouTube.

Yeah, I don't know?! Someone actually came up to me and told me directly no filming, so I stopped. Wasn't obstructing anyone or disruptive in any way... Did you get most of the set? I'll look forward to the rest that you post! :)
