I think the Booth is probably the best as far as sightlines and intimacy. But I love the Lyceum for it's design and look.

I'll go with the Booth as well. I like how intimate the Golden is (without feeling like an unfortunate-era fire trap like the Helen Hayes). 

I assume you mean for straight drama when you say "playhouses"?

By playhouse I mean any theatre theatre that is intended for plays or small(ish) theatres that work well for plays. In my opinion, although I enjoyed Jersey Boys, I think it is time for it to close and go back to housing plays.

I am a sucker for the older ones and my favorite is the New Amsterdam

Though if you look through the production history at the August Wilson it seems to have been host to more musicals than plays in the past 20 or so years.

In my opinion, the Booth. However, if you have really great seats, a lot of houses will do.

The Friedman!  So comfy.  It went from 948 seats to under 700 after the renovation.
