So I like to do my cardio to musicals and I've sort of exhausted my current rotation of Hunchback and Bring It On, so figured I'd ask are there any good recordings you recommend that might be a little more obscure (think Evil Dead) or just great lesser know works.

It certainly isn't obscure, but "Legally Blonde" is a good one that I use, along with "Lysistrata Jones" and "American Idiot"! I hope that helps a bit.

They/them. "Get up the nerve to be all you deserve to be."

I also workout to like The Last Ship, so it doesn't have to be something upbeat. I just like getting wrapped into the story and picturing it in my mind. Helps the cardio go faster.

I love working out to a few songs on the Something Rotten! cast album. I get such an adrenaline rush during A Musical.

i've got 99 problems and a revival of parade would solve like 94 of them

I hate that I'm admitting this but "Pumping Iron" from Starlight Express is a frequent choice if not an obvious one.

The recent OLC of AMERICAN PSYCHO could fit a workout vibe very well I think.

As for getting wrapped up in the story, I would recommend something like CAROLINE OR CHANGE, which for me is a score that i have to listen to with my full attention because of its sung-through(?) nature.

Certain tracks from Spring Awakening like "My Junk", "Totally F*CKed", and "Bitch of Living" are pretty hype. The whole show is kind of a rollercoaster though, so if you like getting wrapped up in a story I would recommend that...same with RENT, ex: "Out Tonight"

I also second the "Legally Blonde" suggestion.

You may like "Heathers: the Musical", that's a pretty high energy show.

American Idiot is excellent for working out.

Not to be confused with Dave19.

I made a playlist of the more upbeat songs in Hamilton (lord knows I'd be a weeping puddle of tears on the treadmill from the "Hurricane" through "Quiet Uptown" chunk of the show...), and it gets me through every time. Take three minutes to do it and you're golden.

An Overture playlist, maybe heavy on the brassy 50's and 60's ones, would probably be a nice mix of upbeat and slower ballad.

IMO, playlists are the way to go, rather than whole albums but:

- Sarafina!
- Leader of the Pack: The Ellie Greenwich Musical
- Sister Act 1 and 2 (the movie soundtracks)
- Altar Boyz
- Five Guys Named Moe
- Dreamgirls
- Bombay Dreams

If I exercised, it would be to a compilation of Jule Styne overtures. I do not exercise so it is a moot point.

I would say the upbeat parts of Hamilton, In the Heights, Something Rotten, American Idiot, a few from Les Mis (they can be any of them), and then some of your personal favorite show tunes in the mix.

I use a Wildhorn compilation- that way the physical pain is secondary.

Just the other day, I undertook my exercise regimen and the OBC of Two Gentlemen of Verona managed to play from start to finish during my entire workout. That album in particular is a nice mix of "up" and "down" tracks.
