NPR has got the first listen-- it sounds incredible! I need to lie down after hearing Carmen's vocals on "At Long Last," good lord!

Went directly to my favorite song, "So Familiar". Sounds great!

Wow. Loved everything about that...especially Cusack.

What a year for original scores! Between this, HAMILTON, WAITRESS, AMERICAN PSYCHO. Wonder if SCHOOL OF ROCK could be the shut out in this category.

just from a quick listen of the first 5 tracks on my way to work, it seems like a great recording. I haven't seen the show but the album has been enjoyable!

Emily Padgett's 'Another Round' is FANTASTIC. I love this recording so much.

this is all i've been listening to today. I went to "Bright Star sings Jeff Blumenkrantz" at birdland on monday and it was so wonderful i damn near died and waking up to this release pushed me over the edge. I can't handle how good Carmen Cusack is.

If the nominees for Best Musical end up being American Psycho, Hamilton, School of Rock, and Waitress, I imagine they would each receive a Best Original Score nomination to go along with it. Though a nomination for Bright Star wouldn't be completely out of the question, especially since Steve Martin & Edie Brickell have been promoting their own show.

I loved American Psycho, but I thought the original music was easily the worst part of it. I'd give that spot to School of Rock for sure. (Along with Hamilton, Bright Star, and Waitress.)

On topic, Bright Star is just heavenly. I've been listening to it all day.

I think Bright Star is just as if not more likely to get a best musical nod than School of Rock and American Psycho. But regardless, I think a best original score nomination is highly likely (where American Psycho would not be a contender).

Now how many shows have been nominated for Best Musical without a nomination for Best Original Score (not counting jukebox musicals)?

The ones I can think of are Bring It On, Catch Me If You Can, Leap of Faith, and Mary Poppins.

THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL is another that comes to mind.

Where is the dialogue? I didn't know what this show was about when I started listening to this album and I still don't know what it's about now that I've finished it. It's a lovely score but a little dialogue to set up some of the songs and clue the listener in on some key plot points would have been nice.

*****Possible Spoilers********

I just finished Act 1 and what I gathered from it is that Carmen Cusack and Paul Alexander Nolan fell in love but they weren't supposed to. Carmen Cusack's character got pregnant with Paul Alexander Nolan's character's kid, their parents found out, 1 of their parents took the baby, put it in suitcase, and threw it out of a train window.

Is that why she's flashing her boobies to the train  in the show logo?

^ well a spoiler alert may have been nice.  (But everyone believes the baby was put up for adoption.)

I just finished and thoroughly enjoyed this recording! I hope Carmen Cusack is nominated for the Tony, she is phenomenal.

I may be in the minority, but I actually prefer my cast recordings with very little to no dialogue. I suppose for the sake of posterity, that isn't ideal, but for my listening pleasure, I love to have the songs isolated.

I adore the score for Violet, for example, but don't listen to that album nearly as much as I would if it didn't have so much of the script in there.

Anyways, I have been streaming this Bright Star recording for nearly 48 hours straight I think! I love it so.

I can understand just wanting the songs but for me, unless it tours, I'll probably never see Bright Star and I like it when they include dialogue on cast albums so I can listen more like a radio play and get a good sense of the story. This album is really just the songs and they're lovely but I'm completely lost as to what the show is about. Maybe the booklet will have a more comprehensive synopsis to help me out.

CATSNYrevival, part of the problem is definitely a lack of specificity in the lyrics. You should be able to tell what a show is about, at least vaguely, without a detailed synopsis. That said, I saw the booklet, and I believe there is a synopsis in it. I don't have it in front of me now to be sure.

Plus I still have yet to see any synopsis of the show at all. Like its a big secret. I read several reviews and they were pretty vague about what occurs (I know there's a baby involved).

It is kind of hard to give a synopsis without giving away some things that you really shouldn't know before seeing it. It would ruin a few things.

Just listened to it and it is my favorite score from this season. Hands down.
