There is only one theatre King Kong can go into and that is the lyric

I'm wondering with it's scheduled July start if SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE will take the Longacre. Also, Frozen's not arriving until Spring 2018, so don't expect a theater announcement anytime soon.

Other theaters that might be available in the next few months: Cort & August Wilson.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

You have a hunch about the August Wilson? Or was it a joke?

up until this past week, JERSEY BOYS hasn't been making their weekly nut this year. I just can't imagine they last much longer. That, plus the overall shortage of available theaters makes me think someone might be knocking on the door of the August Wilson.

Maybe it was the thread about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, someone passionately claimed Frozen was going into the St. James, following Hello, Dolly which is rumored to be taking over there.

I also agree with ACL2006, wouldn't be surprised to see the August Wilson theater become available.

The August Wilson is very good for intimate drama. Although I very much enjoyed Jersey Boys. I think it has had a successful and long enough run and that they should close so a new play or intimate musical can come in. Actually, what is Jersey Boy's nut?

Even if jersey boys didn't break their nut last week, they probably have a million or more in reserves.

The August Wilson would be perfect for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Any updates on how the renovation is going over at The Hudson?  Any announcements yet on when it will open?  Will it really be ready by next season>

Who's to say how well Hello, Dolly would do, though. If they circulate the big names who were plying for the role after Bette leaves - it might run long.

Based on an email I got at work yesterday, they're looking to rent out the Longarce for events for a little bit so they possibly have a show coming in later this year and no one wants to put a show in there in the meantime.

To quote the email:

French Neo-Classical Broadway Theater Temporarily Available

HISTORICAL BROADWAY THEATRE  AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME!

Looking to host 1,000+ people for a large-scale conference and don’t want just another boring ballroom?  Well, you’re in luck! The Longacre Theatre is looking for immediate renters for the next few months!

  • Restored French Neo-Classic architecture
  • Four levels – orchestra, mezzanine, balcony, boxes
  • Two separate lobby entrances
  • In-house bar packages
  • No preferred vendors
  • Staffing and utilities included
  • Reduced rates on non-event days

I'm not sure. In London, it is playing at the Palace Theatre, the former home of Les Mis. Unless they scale down they design, depending on how massive it is in London, The August Wilson may be too small. I'm trying to think of where Harry Potter and the Cursed Child could play: if they are not scaling down, it could play in one of the the large musicals houses. The question is, which theatre? I think the Imperial and Winter Garden would be ideal.

I'd be willing to bet that Midler's Hello, Dolly! already has the St. James booked & that even after her 6 months are up, the producers are currently searching for her replacement. Another big name to keep the show going another 6 months, even if the name's not as big as Midler.

Remember Miss Saigon is also going to land in 2017.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I would've said August Wilson, as plays get lost in big theatres and the Palace in London isn't that big physically it was designed to be a Opera House originally and the audience sits on 4 levels, so still feels intimate. as say August Wilson as  you would sell out, so create demand like Hamilton has, then your ticket prices go north.

Sonia Friedman is involved, one of the most powerful producers, both sides of the Atlantic, so wouldn't be surprised if Scott Rudin was also involved, they have a strong relationship with Jujamcyn Theaters.

I assume Harry Potter is very popular in the US?
