There might have been a thread posted about this... has anyone heard about casting for the Cats Revival? Any rumors about who will be taking on big roles, like Grizabella, Old Deuteronomy, Tugger, Munkustrap...? Auditions were held back in Feb... decisions must have been made already
I was actually thinking about this earlier today. I would imagine they'd want to get the ball rolling rather soon-ish, with performances starting in July—not tremendously far away. I'll almost assuredly be getting tickets regardless, but I'm really waiting for the casting announcement to emerge before I pull the trigger.
I read on an AEA casting notice that their first rehearsal is towards the end of May... I would expect an announcement by next month, or within the next week or so. I've been itching to see if any big names have been tapped for the show, and if Nicole Scherzinger will be reprising Grizabella.
No offense to any CATS lovers, but I hope instead of people auditioning for it, they revolt and protest and even burn down the rehearsal studio and theatre. I don't know why CATS was successful originally, but I do know it shouldn't be sucessful yet again. CATS is no JESUS. It doesn't deserve a resurrection. #DOGLOVERFORLYFE!
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

Completely irrelevant to the thread topic... just gonna ignore this
Considering we are less than 4 months before previews and a cast announcement has yet to be made, am I the only one doubting previews will begin as originally planned. Seems like they are running out of time, unless much of the cast is a carry over from London.

I was thinking the same exact thing. I think the producers are waiting for the right time to make the announcement. It's without a doubt that the creatives have such a large pool of talent to pick from.
I'm quite interested in seeing what they do with the sets, will it look like a cheap tour with everything up on stage or will they try to recreate the atmosphere of the original runs (I regret not seeing the Broadway run before it closed) Only ever saw it in London and even though there are parts of the show that make me cringe, I always loved the all encompassing set.
I am also cringing at the new Rum Tum Tugger hip hop character, so not liking that change

I saw the tour twice when it came to NJ and the set was atrocious. The music also terrible. It sounded like they only had an electric and bass guitar, keyboard/piano, and drum set. I would imagine that ALW would put in a full orchestra.
This will likely be based on the Palladium production and not the last US tour with the inflatable set. There was an attempt in London to extend the set out into the auditorium so I assume the same will be true for Broadway but it will likely be nothing near the scale of the original Broadway or London design.

The original Broadway set and inside-the-theatre design will probably never be surpassed. It was incredible!
And I am totally with you about Rum Tum Tugger. I don't like the change in character or the rewrite of his song. It was fine the way it was. Also, the new version of Growltiger's Last Stand is terrible. The original version of the song was hummable and had some very pretty sections. Again, in my opinion, this was another unnecessary rewrite and definitely NOT an improvement. Someone needs to tell Lloyd Webber to keep his hands off his old scores (if it ain't broke...).
heaven help us all if he decides Evita needs a rewrite!
Evita has gotten a rewrite. Now if you do the show you get the revival version which adds "You Must Love Me" and replaces all the dance music for "Buenos Aires" and "I'd Be Surprisingly Good For You" and other little altered bits to screw with your mind if you've done the old version a thousand times. I personally like none of the changes, especially the BA dance which is one of my favorite bits of the score (the trumpets playing the "Peron's Latest Flame" melody after "real eiderdown and silence" are gone.)
Tomorrow is April. We today heard casting for Falsettos, which begins previews in late September. Cats begins performances two and a half months beforehand. Why haven't we heard anything?
