I know the announcement is a little while away, but I thought that we could speculate and I would share something of interest for us.

While searching though the online records of upcoming shows on different publisher and rights holding website, Dramatists Play Service, Inc. has Mirvish Productions listed as presenting/having rights for a production of "The Audience" from Jan. 10th 2017-Feb. 19 2017.

In unrelated news, Canadian Opera Company is slated to be doing "West Side Story" in the spring of 2018.

Good catch re: The Audience.  If it truly is a local production I wonder who could play the Queen.  My bet would be someone like Seana McKenna.

The COC WSS has been known for a while (and even posted on this site).  It's quite a departure for them and telling of the current state of their company.

Tag, I didn't know about that section of BWW. Funny enough it lists Newsies for the summer of 2016, and yet the dates are roughly the same as last summer, and the tour website has the summer already booked.

COC's West Side Story could be interesting, however, if it's like the opera recording Lenord Berstein did in the 1980's, I don't know if I'll be there.

I totally though about Seana McKenna or Fiona Reid for the Queen if in fact The Audience is a Canadian production

A thread on the main board is saying that Finding Neverland will be at the Royal Alex this June/July.

I was browsing Tumblr last night and saw this post from someone who talked to Jenn Colella at BroadwayCon on the weekend and she claims Come From Away is going to do Toronto pre-Broadway. Was expecting it as probably the biggest Canadian musical in a while.

Crossing my fingers personally for the Bridges of Madison County tour. And wouldn't be surprised if one of the Hamilton or Rent tours announced today (feel like Rent is more likely) show up.

Although we could see the Rent tour in Toronto, it won't be as part of the Mirvish subscription season (as it will be non-Equity).

Is there any chance Mirvish would pick up the Fun Home tour?

Tag - don't think Finding Neverland info is correct. Cannot confirm with 100% certainty but we've looked into that rumour and all our sources point to it being false.

^Just relaying what I read on the main board.

Has anyone heard any rumours about what a possible next sitdown might be?  ie. what the cornerstone of the 16/17 season will be?

Well that's the most lackluster and disappointing season I think they have ever had.  Not impressed at all.

Other than Come from Away and Beautiful there's really nothing I'm interested in. None of Finding Neverland, Fun Home, Hamilton, etc? And no sit-down Canadian musical production? Super disappointing. I imagine the bad dollar has something to do with the lack of big tours but...

Again - it's mind boggling that there was no buildup to this announcement!  Just a press release out of nowhere.  Did they have a presentation this year?  Doesn't look like it.

The season seems to be getting railed on social media.  With Beautiful being the one show that everyone seems to like/want.  It's not a terrible season.  There are actually quite a few coups for them (Come From Away, Strictly Ballroom).  It's worth noting, that Mirvish is jumping on board Come From Away NOW that's it's successful and could have been a much bigger player in their story if they had good producing sense!)

Even come from away doest appeal.  A bunch of chairs on a bare stage nope no interest.  Of all the options out there it seems Toronto just became a third rate tour stop.  And as much as I'd like to see the audience Fiona is no Hellen Mirran.  I can already see the caricature of the queen we will get.

Worth noting that FOREVER PLAID, while in a Mirvish house and sold by TicketKing, is not a Mirvish production. It's a rental.

I'm torn. While I have always enjoyed those random imports from London, or other place that Mirvish has brought in, in recent years (The Secret Garden, Titanic, and The Heart of Robin Hood), I find it sort of underwhelming that the only "big" tour we're getting as a main event is Beautiful. "Mrs. Henderson Presents" just opened on the West End a few days ago (Feb. 16th), and Strictly Ballroom hasn't made it out of Australia yet. I think they are fairly young, and wonder if they will still come to Toronto. Mirvish does have a track record of announcing shows, and then having them get cancelled.

7 Fingers is a main show? Weird. Also, The Audience seems to me to be something that would appear in their "Off-Mirvish" subscription, or something I would think CanStage would have done.

I was thinking today, we need someone like Livent or (dare I say it) Dancap in Toronto to compete.

I'm thinking we're getting The Bodyguard strictly on the fact that Deborah Cox is announced to star, and coming to her home town would be a miss. It was also rumored Toronto was a city they were always going to come to.

Other than Matilda, there is nothing playing all summer. There must be something in the works that they haven't announced yet. It seems too risky to leave theatres open in the summer.

I also find it interesting that other than the Illustionists, Cabaret, and The Book of Mormon have theatres listed on the website.

Buffalo and Detroit have not announced their seasons yet, but I'm guessing we might be taking some trips down there.

There must not be an audience for subscriptions anymore. Especially noting that they were pushing the Spring 2016 season around Christmas, and still recently.

With Mrs. Henderson Presents announcing a June closing (having just opened in February), I can see this being the first casualty of the Mirvish season.

There is an itinerary set for The Bodyguard, and Toronto is no where on the list. Is this the first casualty of the season?

Good catch!  The February/March time period advertised by Mirvish (and still on their site) is otherwise booked on the the tour route.  Either the Toronto engagement is a) cancelled b) postponed c) maybe a Toronto company is being assembled?! It doesn't make sense that an announced tour stop would be cancelled for a tour that is still happening.  Something strange is going on here!

As usual I don't think this season was thought out at all. Just random dates and shows thrown at us.  I know they are really pushing the season subscriptions.  They won't stop calling me. But I can't take a subscription when the shows first off were bad and every year they keep changing last minute.  I can't see a Toronto Company being formed of all the shows available for a sit down...this one is not the one.  I don't know whats gonna happen but it looks like we have two shows up in the air.

So The Bodyguard mystery continues.  Mirvish has released that the show is playing February 11-May 14 (theatre not announced, although only the Ed Mirvish is available).  The national tour is clearly booked during that time in Columbus, Philly, Baltimore, Charlotte, Durham, Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, Tucson, Sacramento, San Jose and L.A.

So is this a Canadian company?  Some incarnation from the West End or UK tour?  Very strange!

I would be shocked if Mirvish put together a Canadian company, but stranger things have happened. Maybe we'll see date changes coming, too. Who knows. Certainly weird!

I spoke with someone who just this week bought a subscription for 2016-2017, and they still were speaking of The Bodyguard.

Also, I know he may not be a reliable, but Michael Riedel of the New York Post, wrote that the producers of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" may want to bring the show to Toronto before it heads to Broadway.

Here's a link to the article: http://nypost.com/2016/07/22/new-harry-potter-play-is-londons-hamilton/

From the New York Times today:

Although there have been some reports that the producers were considering a production in Toronto before New York, Mr. Callender [West End producer] dismissed that. “I don’t know where the Toronto gossip came from, but it’s not based on anything,” he said.
