One of my very favorite shows. The MTC Production was stunning. Here's hoping this one is even half as good.

Joe Mantello directed it the first time, right? So it should be.

I adored Williams in CABARET, so I'm happy to see her return to the stage so soon.

But I can't help but wonder if this is the project Sienna Miller turned down...

It seems strange to me that they would offer Sienna the role FIRST? As Michelle is more famous than she is, IMO. So I'm not sure.

I still don't think she's a particularly remarkable actress but I can see her being upset at getting paid half of Jeff Daniels' salary. Unless there are legions of Newsroom fans I'm unaware of.

Wow. I was just talking about this play yesterday.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

If this is taking the Belasco, does this all but guarantee that American Psycho will take the Booth?

^ Not at all. There are several theaters available for spring. And I'll be surprised if Hughie doesn't have the Booth.

Is it just me or is it weird to describe statutory rape as "had a relationship?"

Would this be a new play? I know it was off broadway and in London not so long . And as such considered too early to be considered a revival. Because its the first time on Broadway! The difference between the run off and on is so short that it would be considered new?

It's comparable in its history to Cripple of Inishmaan, so no, it's a revival.

Ooooooh!  I'll be in town for the first weekend of previews!  I just booked a ticket for the Hamilton matinee on 2/7!  (I've been wanting to see Javier and I'm hoping Terrence Mann won't have departed Neverland yet as he's the reason I'm finally going to make time to see that show.). This will definitely be making the list for that weekend. Love them both!!!  Michelle was far from my favorite Sally Bowles but I love her film work, and I was a huge Newsroom fan so I'm really excited for this.

First of all, there's no hard and fast rule, so I don't know how you feel comfortable making such a flat-out prediction. Also, to use your example, CRIPPLE was close to 20 years old when it came to Broadway and had two major NYC productions prior to Broadway. BLACKBIRD is around 10 years old and has only had one brief NYC production. I think, like Richard Greenberg's THE AMERICAN PLAN in 2009, it will be considered a new play.

I wonder if the recent success of Skylight on Broadway informed the decision to revive Blackbird.  Although I don't know anything about this play other than the brief synopsis provided, it sounds quite similar and they are both two-handers (well, the majority of Skylight is arguably a two-hander) cast with well-known movie stars.  Hopefully for them, lightning will strike twice.

The first thing I thought when I saw this was that this was the project that Sienna Miller turned down.

Terrence Mann being in Neverland at that point may be iffy. It wouldn't surprise me if he left with Matthew Morrison who's contract ends at the end of January but I could be wrong. I just don't want you to get disappointed if that happens. :)

Thanks; I definitely realize it's not a given I'll see him, but it's the soonest return visit I can make. Keeping my fingers crossed though!!!  :)

If I make a work trip to NY in January or December I may be able to sneak it in sooner.

It's a Scott Rudin production too. That man seems to love revivals (for lack of a better categorization for Blackbird). It's his third this season. I wonder with two true revivals already in the mix (he's doing both Arthur Millers this season) if he will petition to have this considered a "new" play. If not, I suggest he pick up another and try to sweep the category....

Damn, I wish this was opening sooner. None of the plays opening this fall interest me, but this is one I'd go see, if only it coincided with my New York trip.

But I can't read the title without singing the Beatles song in my head, so I suppose it's just as well.

Was this any good in London? I know it won the Olivier but they can be a very weird group of award givers
