On last nights episode of AGT Howerd said that Broadway is too small and Broadway acts never succeed. I want to ask the board of you think this is true. The singers on talent competitions who sing showtunes often do they get eliminated earlier? Also I felt insulted when howerd said that. Also the show is mast radio city music hall so it's basically Broadway,

Typically, what Stern said is true. Being called "too Broadway" or a Broadway singer can be a kiss of death on a talent show because it limits your marketability.
Of course, many successful singers on talent shows have gone on to have stable careers on Broadway.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to anything Howard Stern says.

He's allowed his opinion. The vast majority of this country have never set foot in a Broadway theater or seen any professional theater, nor do they own a single obcr. Maybe 20% saw a musical at their high school once or twice.
It's not everyone's thing.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

yes I am leaving but just HAD to mention;
First its Howard Stern
and 2nd I have always considered Broadway to be niche. I am part of that niche and love Broadway especially Matilda . But many cannot afford it or would like it and there is nothing wrong with that. I have seen so many great shows with messages about our society and culture and general. and for that I am thankful. But if you are so up in arms over one persons perspective well then you might need to take a chill pill. I personally think Broadway is very expensive and mostly only accessible to the rich. I agree the RENTisivcation of tickets is great but still its expensive to run and do . I have always thought of Broadway to be like Per Se (which I have been to) great for people who love food and wine and have money not so great for people who just want something to eat. Many just want to something fun to do that is in budget and thats fine.

This show is looking fo a Vegas act so I suspect his comments were probably pretty on target. I am addicted to this season of the show and he has been a great judg this season. JMO

Howard is not opposed to Broadway- he's expressed admiration and enjoyment for musical theatre multiple times. But acting as judge and surrogate talent agent, he's usually the voice of reason. Acts that are too niche, too Broadway, sometimes fail to get mainstream audiences.
