I heard A Bronx Tale is coming to Paper Mill next year. I also heard they did a workshop last year. Who played the lead roles? I'm wondering who's going to make it to the Papermill show from the original workshop cast. Thanks all
I have no idea but I'm encouraged by the references to "doo wop" and "The Ronettes" in the casting call. Even though I don't like Glenn Slater paired with Alan Menken visions of a return to Little Shop started dancing in my head when I read that.
Jimmy Webb was writing songs for a musical of this 15-20 years back (one was included on the excellent Michael Feinstein Jimmy Webb album.) I love a lot of Menken, but I wish I could hear more of that score. (Poor Webb--his book on songwriting makes it clear he understands the differences between pop and musical theatre composing and he's had at least half a dozen musicals that have never gotten off the ground, everything from Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine to three musicals with Michael Bennett including the fascinating sounding sex musical, Scandal, that Bennett was workshopping when he got sick.)
