I am constantly amazed at how many young folks don't know that Carole King was such a pioneer of rock and roll, girl groups, and the whole singer/ songwriter movement. I've had the pleasure of meeting her a few times and the woman actually freaking glows from within--she has such an amazing aura.
The only thing I knew about Carole King was that she sung the Gilmore Girls theme song. But then Beautiful came out and a month later I downloaded four of her albums! I love her. I entered the contest they are putting on to attend the show, I doubt I'll be one of the three that they will pick but it would be amazing to go instead of watching it on tv!

Younger people really only know of Carole King because of BEAUTIFUL?! Really?? As previously mentioned, she was a pioneer in the singer-songwriter genre and one of the very first prominent, independent female songwriters (following her divorce).
A) Yeah, I'm 23 and pre-Beautiful I only knew Carole because of the Gilmore Girls theme song and You've Got A Friend (which I primarily knew as a James Taylor song).
B) About time for Rita Moreno! She finished her EGOT almost 40 years ago! (1977)

...and in that 40 year span she's won numerous other awards! This is just one more to add to the mantle!
Just last year she won a Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Eagles? Gimme a break- and Cicely Tyson? Thrown in because she is old and black- plenty more deserving actors out there- Jane Fonda could have gotten Tyson's spot- and as for The Eagles- with Carole King as a nominee- another nominee from the world of dance could have taken the place- sounds like a more commercial Kennedy Centers Awards than in the past.

Not all young people. I'm in my twenties and I knew who Carole King was long before Beautiful. Of course, I'll admit that before listening to Tapestry I knew some of her songs that don't get as much radio play from American Idol Carole King nights and the like.
