I'm surprised OTTC is doing so poorly, I thought KC was star enough to bring it up a little bit. Not a whole ton of surprises. I wonder how much longer ISBY and Hedwig can stay open with numbers like those. I'm sure those are pretty low cost shows (especially Hedwig with such a small cast. ISBY will most likely shutter before Labor Day.

It's packing the house almost to the hilt every week, I'd be wary to say that it's doing poorly. The only reason it's not a million-dollar blockbuster is that it's in a 650-seat subscriber house. (Also, Chenoweth has been out intermittently and that could have had an impact as well)

To my eyes, OTTC is doing fine, considering it's not a classic show with a substantial following beyond musical theater devotees. It was never a colossal hit before, and though Chenoweth has a loyal fan base, she's appeared regularly enough that she is not an event beyond it. That's not to disparage her star power or commitment to B'way, but she returns often enough that she alone won't sell tickets. Just my opinion, but the title doesn't conjure up a show that people can readily get inside. It has no famous hit song around which a TV commercial can be built, and its semi-operatic style doesn't necessarily appeal to a wider audience. So to me, these are respectable numbers, with 97% of the seats filled. It just isn't CABARET.

How is OTTC not doing well? It's average ticket price is over $100 and it's a near sell-out. Not to mention it has no huge-name movie stars, no well-known source material and is a subscriber-based house. It's doing fine.
OTT is not hanging in there; it is losing well over $100k a week and it has flatlined even after some of the other losers have been withdrawn from the market.
"I guess King and I still did very well considering all the refunds given for Kelli O'Hara's missed performances."
With those numbers I would guess that the number of actual refunds given was much lower than people assume it would be. Or else they had a huge wait list of people ready to buy them right back up in the cancellation line.
I've never understood why they thought Wolf Hall in such a gigantic theater would make money. British transfers need a recognizable title, a big star, or a very high concept to be successful. I just don't think "6 hours of British history on stage!" qualifies.
I anticipate similar problems with King Charles III. Obviously they're very different plays, but the core audience for the subject matter is largely British.
still debating whether i should see Bring up the Bodies lol. People saw War Horse, and Curious Incident all without big stars. The thing about Wolf Hall is that it is very historical and has 2 parts. People don't want to spend double the price on a long show
Im sooo looking forward to King Charles III. It sounds awesome!!
I think going to the Winter Garden was a mistake, it was never going sell out a theatre that size and in such a competitive season against The Audience, Fish in the Dark and Skylight.
"Thank god Wolf Hall is a limited run...it must be BLEEDING money."
Do you think Wolf Hall would be doing well in a smaller theatre or are they heavily discounting tickets to fill the seats they are selling? I'm hoping to go for rush before it closes... and if it ever stops raining.
