One of my all time favorite 'toons is back! I'm a huge animation/anime/comic book geek so this announcement totally made my day!

The Powerpuff Girls reboot,  is expected to start airing in 2016. Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup look more or less how fans of the cult series will remember the pint-sized heroes.

However, the show will not be back quite as audiences remembered it. In addition to modified designs, the show will be returning without series creator Craig McCracken, though he's reportedly given the new series his blessing.

The Fosters actress Amanda Leighton will be voicing Blossom, while Kristen Li and Natalie Palamides will be Bubbles and Buttercup, respectively. That was not welcome news to the three actresses who originated the roles. Prolific voice actress Tara Strong, who voiced Bubbles, compared the casting news to a "stab in the heart" on Twitter.

This was one of the shows I looked forward to watching on Cartoon Network when I was about 7-8 years old (other than the other CARTOON CARTOONS that once dominated the network until the infamous 2004 rebrand). I seriously can't wait for the reboot and it is rather to bad that a good amount of people are bad mouthing it before any footage ever came out. But at least voice actress Tara Strong did say that "she wishes the new cast the best of luck", the "stab in the heart" was directed at Cartoon Network.

And besides original POWERPUFF GIRLS creator Craig McCraken did give this reboot his personal blessing so there must be something to this new reboot. I have to say that ever since ADVENTURE TIME premiered, Cartoon Network has FINALLY crawled out of this big creative slump that made their cartoons suffer since 2005-9. Those were some dark times for the network. Now we have really good shows like that, REGULAR SHOW, THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL, CLARENCE, and my personal favorite, STEVEN UNIVERSE. Not only this show but WE BARE BEARS created by TOY STORY OF TERROR writer Daniel Chong is coming this year and hopefully more quality cartoons will follow.

I agree with you on all counts MusicalMaster. The Cartoon Network took quite a nosedive for awhile. I think their new slate of programming is getting them back on track and now they are bringing back the beloved PowerPuff Girls.

They did do a one-off special last year using the original voice actresses, except they gave the characters a major re-design which I found quite interesting. I'm guessing the re-design was not embraced by all and the powers that be decided to revert to the classic PowerPuff Girls design, with some slight modification for this re-boot.

Thanks Carlos, the special was fun for the short time it had despite feeling rushed; plus I really do admire the art direction of Kevin Dart, who also worked on the first twelve episodes of STEVEN UNIVERSE as art director, for his style is quite 1960's UPA in a sense. But I do like the reboot's official artwork more because it does closely resembles the original show.

Do you know which show flat out deserves a revival? Simple, SWAT KATS. Come on, that was every late 90's-early 2000's kid's dream come true. Awesome looking cats that rode a big fighter jet to stop evil screams of awesome. Not to mention that the original show deserved to have a third season but I will admit that if SWAT KATS didn't get cancelled after season 2, we would never have the WHAT A CARTOON! which was the show that showcased original cartoons to Cartoon Network and that gave birth to the flagship CARTOON CARTOONS which were the very shows that were the flesh, blood and the identity of the channel it'self. Interesting history this channel had.

I'm a big fan of the old 60's era UPA designs. As a kid I thought they were so hip & cool and I loved their color palette.

I love me some Gerald McBoing Boing

One of the coolest things about the upcoming reboot is that the people who have been hired as the storyboard artists and writers are huge fans of the original series and one of them, Julia Vickerman, is excited to work on it. Apperently, she has her own cartoon she's pitching to the network called: TWELVE FOREVER which it's pilot is available online to watch.

Here's the link to TWELVE FOREVER's pilot:
