Supply and demand.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It is ridiculous. And it's prices like these that just make me roll my eyes at the Tonys every year when they say that Broadway "made more money than ever before!"

Well of course it did, they've raised the prices so damn much, it's hardly a surprise!

It has killed Broadway as Roxy predicted in the '90s when tickets broke the $60 barrier.  Nobody ever went anymore.

Just went to box office and got tickets for November.  Center section of orchestra (and first 4 center seats in side section) up to Row N are premium.  Front center of mezzanine and the first 2-4 on the side also premium ($327).  Other tickets are $167 but the seats close to those premiums are gone.

I ended up getting Row A side of mezzanine (but not all the way to the side -- in the middle of the side section) for a Tuesday in November for $167 a ticket.  It seemed like a reasonable "value" if you consider the word value appropriate here.

The person at the box office said they have had little issue selling those premium seats and are totally sold out for much if not all of July and August already.

I feel like some variation on this thread pops up every month, but I just feel the need to remind everyone that Hamilton really is no anomaly. Their ticket prices are the same as every other show on Broadway. They also sell rear mezz for $59, which is a cheaper bottom price than many shows. I bought a seat in the mid-orchestra for a performance at the end of August when tickets went onsale for the $167 price (row L). This is a hot ticket and if you want to spend as little money as possible, you gotta put in the effort. If you're just now, months after the onsale, trying to score a ticket near the beginning of the run...well, that's kind of on you.

"Demand based pricing" isn't great for the average theatergoer, but I'd rather see a show take in the profit on a $300 ticket than some scalper.

The show has sold a half years worth of tickets 2 months before it opens. No one should expect to find seats let alone good ones this year. And no one should expect those seats to be priced at a level that will only inure to the benefit of the Scalpers Hampton Summer Home Trust.

Honestly, I don't care how good the show is, nobody should have to pay those prices to see anything. People need to just stop buying overpriced tickets so that they will lower the prices. Definitely not rooting for this show. And they are clearly going to have the whitest audiences...how ironic.

Well lucky for you, Pinto that you have so many friends who are high up in the theater and can give you free tickets to anything anytime anywhere you want. You're the luckiest middle schooler that's ever lived!

Im not a middler schooler, and i certainly won't be seeing Hamilton any time soon especially if tickets are at that price. I bet they won't even do rush. How do they expect blacks and hispanics to see the show at those prices? Its honestly ridiculous, and i really hope theres backlash

lol cut the bs and lets have a real conversation. Its a fact that blacks and hispanics don't have as much money as white people do in this world. I bet if prices were cheaper on broadway, we'd see more color in the audience, but unfortunately we don't

Is it really? Wow, that suddenly makes that comment okay.

Oh wait, that's not categorically true and even if it were, that comment would still be awful.

I LOVED In The Heights. Was really looking forward to seeing Hamilton. Saw it and I have to admit, it has some good stuff, but I really don't get the hype. I did see it early in previews when it was right around 3 hours long. But then again I don't get Fun Home either. so what do I know.

Well you people keep calling me racist. When i said i was "for them" i meant i am not racist, and wish we saw more color in the theatre, but I don't think they can afford it as much as white people can.
