I remember her in Kate McShane, a lawyer show, Charles Haid played her priest brother who was a law teacher and Her character referred to him a "Ya jolly Jesuit"- w her brooklyn/Irish accent. Always made me laugh.
Such a loss. Never saw her on stage, but she was such a staple from my years growing up, seeing her on television talk, variety and game shows. And a couple of sitcoms she was in, as well.
I couldn't remember if she and Jerry, being such a famous TV couple, ever appeared on that Bert Convy game show, Tattletales, so looked it up. And there they were. 1978 in that particular episode.
-a cameo in the original Out-of Towners movie. Hilarious in about 2 minutes of film time.
-got to meet her at a play conference in Alaska of all places. Friendly, funny and so down to earth. I asked her what it was like to work with Sandy Dennis. And as loud as she could be she yelled, "I LOVE Sandy Dennis!!!"
-and on Theater Talk, I think it was, they were discussing her role in Anna Christie at the Roundabout. The producers were there saying that when "Anne came into the room, we knew we found our "Mary"!" Ms. Meara came right back with, "Are you kidding?? I had 5 callbacks! You producers!" I always loved that.
