Oh no!  A transit system that's over 100 years old and has 6 million people ride it every single day might need to up by the price by 42 whole cents to get you to your destination safely???

NJ Transit is also proposing a 10% fare hike while simultaneously threatening to eliminate or cut services to many routes. It's always the same. Raise the prices, cut back and provide the same level of s*itty service as always.

Sutton, ALL New Yorkers have an MTA tax taken out of their paychecks. Doesn't matter it you use the MTA or not.

How does this encourage people to stop using your own vehicle and use mass transit?

The people that need to be fired are the ones in charge of the budgets at both agencies.

There's one big issue with the MTA that has always bothered me. They know that essentially everyone who lives in NYC needs the subways/busses to get to work or simply get around. So, they can raise the fare to whatever they want because people will be forced to pay it. Sad to say, it's not like there are going to be people protesting the MTA en mass to the point where they consider lowering fares. If that's something that does happen or is at least an option I doubt most people would do it because that could literally mean loosing their jobs.

I get it. I mean, in reality, paying $116 a month to ride unlimited isn't that much. If you had a car you'd be paying much more in gas/insurance. So we're still getting out ahead. But, with every fare hike, I'd like to see some changes? I live off the 1 line and we get spoiled. We have the little timers telling us when trains are coming, wifi, etc. But the other lines aren't as lucky. And our stations are just gross in general. Is it that hard to get someone to come clean up?
