Sony Pictures have announced that they are preparing to bring the stage musical 'Beautiful' to screen.

“Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” will be made into a feature film produced by Tom Hanks’ production company and released by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

The look at the pop singer-songwriter’s rise to fame and off-stage triumphs and tragedies will be adapted by Douglas McGrath, who is also the writer of the musical’s book.

Most importantly, Sony Pictures has obtained the rights to use King’s songs, as well as life rights from King and others featured in the show. The soundtrack will be a big attraction for the film, as it represents a tapestry of American popular culture and boasts such hits as “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “I Feel the Earth Move” and “You’ve Got a Friend.”

The film will be produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone banner and by Paul Blake, who also produced the stage show. Sherry Kondor and Christine Russell will executive produce.

“Beautiful” has been playing on Broadway since January 2014 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards, winning two, including one for Jessie Mueller’s performance as King. It has also opened in London and has been nominated for 8 Olivier awards.

Jessie Mueller is no longer playing the role on Broadway, could she be eyeing up an Oscar to sit along side that Tony for playing Carole King?

She's working on "The Waitress" which is pretty certain going to have a Broadway run. It might be complications with scheduling if they were to indeed offer the role to her.
