Whether Greece will drop out of the Eurozone, will the Fed will raise rates this year, what's Putin's endgame in the Ukraine, how best to defeat ISIS... I assumed the OP meant things like that.

Posted: 2/28/15 at 8:00amThat's a very interesting question you bring up, and I think it's absolutely questionable. I mean, it's not based on a movie, so that could make it hard. And people seem to be allergic to depth now, and though it's not a drama per se, it has some depth to it. However, it IS a spectacle, and people LOVE a spectacle. I'm thinking it wouldn't be a complete flop, but it certainly wouldn't last this many years.

Posted: 2/28/15 at 12:54pmWell, it's still running today and still drawing near sell out crowds on Broadway, despite almost never being discounted and never on TKTS, correct? And this is after already running 11 1/2 years and with countless national and international tours and sit down productions in Chicago, L.A. and San Francisco. I think that shows it has the same appeal in 2015 that it had in 2003. So if it was JUST opening now and was totally fresh and new, yes, it would be as hot and talked about and likely as successful, especially with social media which didn't really exits back in the ancient times of 2003 like it does today. There you have it, a definitive answer.

Posted: 2/28/15 at 2:42pmI think Wicked's success has less to do with "the times" and more to do with the overall appeal of the show itself. The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic that generations have (and will continue to) enjoyed, so I believe that something like Wicked would be able to succeed regardless of when it's brought into the picture.
