I just got into Fun Home a few days ago (very late, I know). Based on the OCR at least, it's a legacy any composer should be immensely proud of. She deserves to win a Tony Award and live off the licensing rights residuals for the rest of her life if she wants to! Although I imagine she'll get bored and eventually write another musical Jeanine Tesori:

At the Fun Home CD-signing event at Barnes & Noble last year, the whole cast was there and performed several numbers. I was delighted to see that Tesori accompanied them on the piano, rather than use a recorded track. It was great to hear her take on her own music! Such a great show.

Ring of Keys is indeed one of the best songs written for the musical theatre in the past decade. (Half the credit must go here to Lisa Kron for the lyrics). Unique and beautiful.

"Ring of Keys is indeed one of the best songs written for the musical theatre in the past decade."

The musical equivalent of epicac. Quick acting.

""Well" is one of my very favorite plays."

One of the worst I've ever seen.

Unless you're referring to Kurt Vonnegut's short story, I think you mean Ipecac.

I've blocked After Eight, so I don't know what's going on, but I think it is weird that he can't let a Fun Home thread go by without commenting. It's like some kind of warped reflex. There are plenty of shows that I don't care for, but once I've expressed my honest opinion on the preview or review thread, that's it.

Every time I listen to this recording, I remember how excited I am for this show. And yes, Ring of Keys is a masterpiece- I've never heard a theatrical piece that so beautifully explained what it's like as a gay person to realize that something about you is just different, and that you recognize that difference in others as well.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Can't wait, most eager anticipation in years. This music made my heart sing and I'm sure I'll cry like a baby when I see the show. Well done Jeanine, thank you.

"I don't know what's going on,"

Perhaps then you should refrain from commenting.

"he can't let a Fun Home thread go by without commenting."

Can you?

Do you?

"It's like some kind of warped reflex."

What kind of reflex is yours?

"There are plenty of shows that I don't care for, but once I've expressed my honest opinion on the preview or review thread, that's it."

That's it for you, maybe. But you're not everyone.

Is After Eight a joke? Like is it all an act or is it for real?

I can't imagine anyone really being that bitter.
