OUT OF THE BLUE (Shaftesbury Theatre 1994) - 20 Years Old!

To mark 20 years since 'Out Of The Blue' opened and closed at the Shaftesbury Theatre, Stage Door Records have produced a 60 minute podcast episode profiling the infamous musical centered around the atomic bomb dropping on Nagasaki in August 1945.

The podcast features interviews with the composer Shun Tokura, director David Gilmore and original London cast members Greg Ellis, Meredith Braun and Paulette Ivory. The programme also features a never before heard cut song from the show which was recorded during the workshop.

We've always been particularly fond of this ambitious sung-through musical which was both brave and unapologetic in tackling the sensitive subject matter head on. We hope the podcast gives listeners an opportunity to learn more about the show which ran for just 20 performances in November / December 1994.

The Stage Door podcast is available to download for free on iTunes and Soundcloud. Future episodes are currently being developed, profiling other West End musicals released on the Stage Door label and will be published throughout 2015.

Out Of The Blue came to the West End, literally, out of the blue. There was no marketing for it at all and suddenly it appeared at the Shaftesbury. Unfortunately it closed before i could get there, but remember the cast being full of big west end names at the time.

Its a show i know nothing about so will definitely be giving this a listen. Thanks!
