WHAT THE HELL?!?! I can't believe this! I thought it was selling pretty well, I mean at least relatively well. That's really sad to hear, it's such a great show.

That's too bad! I'm seeing the show tonight, hopefully this news doesn't demoralize the cast too much. I was hoping this show had a decent run of at least over a year.

I guess a cast recording is now off the table too. At least there are those six live tracks out there, and numerous officially recorded clips of the various guest stars in the show.

Very sad news.
Gladys Knight didn't get to perform at all, right?

I think this is pretty crazy and really unfortunate for the entire company and the two divas who were coming in.

That's really crazy considering the people they had lined up. Maybe the advanced sales just weren't good enough?

Wow, I'm very surprised. Why would they go to the trouble of booking guest stars if they knew the show was on shaky ground?

They need Hugh Jackman to guest for a while!

That was one of the shows on my list to choose from when I'm up in NYC on August 31st.

Seriously? Though I guess I am partially at fault for not buying tickets. I didn't have much of an interest in this until their performance at the Tonys.

something isnt right here, how would being closed one week allow them to keep running an addition 7 weeks....?

Is it they had no one to cover the "guest star" spot?

I'm thinking either the actors' or the musicians' union wouldn't agree to a one week shuttering?

I don't understand, either. I thought their sales were pretty good.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

really surprised they're not keeping this open longer. The producers really seemed to want to keep it going, but I'm guessing advance sales weren't looking good. I'm also guessing with the lack of available theaters this Fall, someone must wants the Brooks Atkinson(Honeymoon in Vegas??). Also, I find this interesting from the Playbill.com article:

"According to the New York Times, the show's producers, led by Scott Sanders, were hoping to boost ticket sales with a Best Musical Tony win. To stay open through August (when Natalie Cole was scheduled to take her turn as guest headliner), After Midnight depended on receiving a contract concession from more than a dozen theatrical unions. That concession would have allowed the Jazz Age musical revue to temporarily shut down over the July 4 week (between guests LaBelle and Gladys Knight), but not all of the unions agreed.

The production will close at a financial loss, but investors may recoup if a national tour of the show, which is in discussions, proves to be a success."
A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.

I wonder if they would look for a big-time star to do the tour if it ends up happening.

Very surprised to hear this. I really thought that they would last at least through the fall.
Some people can get a thrill, knitting sweaters and sitting still. That's okay for some people, who don't know they're alive!
