Of course, to make the show financially viable in a small theater, Friedman’s going to have to charge premium prices. But, she says, “We are not going to go bonkers.” And she says there will be at least 40 or 50 seats a night priced at $35, an idea Jackman endorsed immediately. “Anybody can see this play, if you work at it a little bit,” she says
I hope this actually happens. And I hope they're available in advance!
It will be interesting to see how long the pricing schedule will last. When LADY DAY first opened, patrons at the table seats received a complimentary glass of champagne or sparkling water. Not for long. The ticket prices haven't dropped, but now you don't even get tap water in a Dixie cup.
Wouldn't this configuration of CITS be more suitable to the theme of the play, i.e., the intimacy and the sense of mystery that is at the heart of THE RIVER --
I love this theater, and glad it will have a hit on its hands. It doesn't have great curb appeal though. I guess they can plaster a huge picture of Jackman's face on the side of the theater, or maybe they'll go for the Audra approach and just have a picture of Jackman instead of "The River."
Another show to pre-order on Audience Rewards! I just learned that Cush Jumbo, the original Marc Antony from the Donmar's Julius Caesar, will be in this production. That should guarantee a sell out.
