Please remember: if you are hoping to have something sent to you (a signed playbill for example) then you need to include a SASE as well.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I've been doing fan mail for about a year now and the only way I have gotten a written Responce is if I made up a questionaire with it. Most performers will fill it out and send it back.
Like the previous poster mentioned, I wouldn't get your hopes up for a written reply. I only ever have once, and it was from Kelli O'Hara. She commented on the letter I had sent her, and thanked me for the compliments I had included in it. It was incredibly sweet of her.
I have never asked directly for a written response, but out of 75 fanmails I have gotten back, lengthy written responses came from Kelli O'hara, Nikki M. James, Nikki Renee Daniels, Brian D'arcy James , Karine Plantadit, Rebecca Luker, Wesley Taylor, Victoria Clark, and Cherry Jones.
I once received a lovely, handwritten note back from John McMartin, who invited me to visit him backstage. Hubby and I had an enjoyable chat with the amiable Mr. M. This was, I believe, during his run in SHOWBOAT in the mid-'90s. I'm still a fan and have been ever since I saw the original production of SWEET CHARITY as an adolescent.
